Career Center transition from UMBCworks to Handshake

  <Tagline>Please update your webpages</Tagline>

Hello Fellow Sites Admins,

The Career Center is excited to announce our transition to a new job system, called Handshake, which has become the #1 place employers recruit college students and recent graduates.

This new platform is now live and will replace the university's old system, UMBCworks, which has been around since 2006.

Please help us get the word out to students, faculty and staff by updating your websites to reflect this important change. Please search for links/references to UMBCworks within pages of the Site(s) you own, and make updates to Handshake.

Departments that work closely with the Career Center on internship or research programs please pay special attention if you find any of your pages that have student instructions for using UMBCworks to apply for practicum notation or faculty supervised credit experiences - these instructions will need to be revised or replaced with a direct link to Career Center pages.

If you have any questions or need support with updating the text of your Careers page, please reach out to careers@umbc.edu. Thank you for your support.

This course provides an overview of accessibility and how it applies to websites. It introduces different types of disabilities, assistive technology, various accessibility laws and regulations and describes the common accessibility show stoppers in Web and how you can make your website accessible to all.

Hope to see you there! REGISTER HERE

Why would you want to attend?

You don't have to be an accessibility expert, but you do need to have a solid understanding of what Web Accessibility means and what guidelines apply.

Even basic knowledge will empower you to make better decisions about design, content policies, and site changes.

During the 90-minute training session, you will learn:

What accessibility means in the online realm

How people with disabilities access the web

WCAG 2.0 standards

Laws and regulations about accessibility

Keyboard, text, structure, and contrast requirements

    How to get in compliance

Who is this training for?

Web Accessibility impacts a wide range of people who contribute to running a website. Anyone with a stake in your organization's website could benefit from training but we particularly recommend that web developers, project managers, designers, and content managers attend.

The Presenter

The training session will be led by an IAAP Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPAAC). She has 6+ years of experience in Web Accessibility and has helped clients across a broad range of industries.

After the training session, you'll have an opportunity to ask her any questions you have about web accessibility.

Web accessibility isn't just good business practice. It is the right thing to do.
