Welcome to the Children and Families, Schooling, & Development Lab at UMBC!
Our research addresses ways to promote the academic success of children from diverse (race/ethnicity, SES, linguistic) backgrounds. Although our research considers home and school factors, we are particularly interested in how parental beliefs and practices are associated with children’s academic development. Research projects include investigations of similarities and differences across groups and the processes related to such, projects designed to improve children’s academic outcomes, and evaluations of ongoing curriculum and intervention approaches.
All events, groups, organizations, and centers are open for full participation by all individuals regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, or any other protected category under applicable federal law, state law, and the University's nondiscrimination policy.
