Our nation is wrestling with big challenges that have important scientific dimensions: climate change, the opioid crisis, the future of work and many more. How do we communicate to the public the curiosity, inquiry, and innovation that drive science and ensure that people from all communities are reached and engaged?
Join Talithia Williams, NOVA Wonders host and Harvey Mudd Associate Dean and Associate Professor of Mathematics; Jamie Gurganus UMBC Associate Director of Engineering Education Initiatives and Instructor of Mechanical Engineering; Justin Brooks, U.S. Army Research Lab Physician, Scientist and Program Manager; and Julia Cort, NOVA Wonders Executive Producer, for a screening followed by a panel discussion on how we can make science communication more inclusive.
A reception with refreshments will follow the Q&A. Sponsors for the UMBC screening include Center for Women in Technology (CWIT), Meyerhoff Scholars Program, and Sherman STEM Teacher Scholars Program. Contact meyerhoff@umbc.edu for more information.
