Retriever Essentials is a faculty, staff, and student partnership to tackle food insecurity in our university community. Nationwide, a large percentage of college students are skipping meals to make ends meet, often despite working full and part time jobs and careful budgeting. Retriever Essentials exists to ensure that UMBC students should not have to make decisions like this. We strive to end basic needs barriers to academic success, and we do so by providing free nonperishable groceries at 6 locations on campus, and also free meals to True Grits through our Save a Swipe Program.
In an effort to understand the prevalence of food insecurity in our university community, we are striving to issue an institution-wide survey this semester to quantify the need for our programming. We would greatly appreciate if students took the time to fill out our quick student survey. Responses will be kept confidential and only used to support Retriever Essentials' research and analyses. The survey is online, and can be foundĀ here.
