Dr. Gentry McCreary is a sought-after consultant and problem-solver for campuses grappling with hazing, risk management, and substance abuse issues. He is a nationally-recognized expert in conducting organizational investigations, particularly involving fraternities and sororities and other closed communities.

Dr. McCreary is the former Associate Dean of Students/Deputy Title IX Coordinator and an adjunct professor of College Student Affairs Administration at the University of West Florida. Prior to that, he served for five years as the Director of Greek Affairs at the University of Alabama during a time in which that fraternity/sorority community became the largest in the United States. He received a B.S. degree from the University of Tennessee, a M.Ed. from the University of South Carolina, and a Ph.D. from the University of Alabama. He was recognized with the Dissertation of the Year Award from the University of Alabama for his research on the impact of moral judgment and disengagement on hazing attitudes and bystander behavior in college males. He is a 2016 recipient of the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors Sue Kraft Fussell Distinguished Service Award.

Dr. McCreary's talk, entitled "The 5 Great Hazing Myths" will help UMBC students and staff reframe their understanding of hazing and its detrimental effects on individuals and organizations.
