UMBC students of any major can apply for this award to assist with additional costs associated with study in Japan.

    </u></span>Are you planning to study in South Korea, Japan, China, or elsewhere in East or Southeast Asia? If so, apply for the<a href="https://iie.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=1c2990d53535fcb3c05526d43&amp;id=aa275e688d&amp;e=afaf9b0368" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>Freeman Awards for Study in Asia</span></a><span>!! Freeman-ASIA provides scholarships for U.S. undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia. The program’s goal is to increase the number of U.S. citizens and permanent residents with first-hand exposure to and understanding of Asia and its peoples and cultures. </span>

    <div>DAAD invites representatives from universities, research institutions and funding agencies in the United States and Canada, as well as colleagues from the fields of education policy and politics, to join the “Germany Today” Information Tour 2025. DAAD’s Information Tour “Germany Today” is designed to give participants a broad overview of Germany’s higher education landscape. This includes:</div>

    <li>An overview of Germany’s higher education and research systems</li>
    <li>An update on current developments, innovative projects, and structural reforms</li>
    <li>Details about BA and MA programs, as well as PhD training at various institutions</li>
    <li>Information on funding opportunities for academic exchange and institutional cooperation</li>
    </ul></div>
    <div>The theme of this year's tour is the strengthening of exchange and networking between the higher education systems in Germany and North America. Global challenges such as energy supply, climate change, urban development, and health policy issues can only be addressed through international academic collaboration and exchange. The tour offers the chance to explore the broad spectrum of German scientific institutions, including universities in Hamburg, Kiel, Lübeck and Berlin, which are notable for both their international cooperation and their integration into their respective local communities. </div>

    <div>Applicants should be U.S./Canadian citizens or permanent residents, possess a demonstrated interest in Germany and transatlantic cooperation, and hold a relevant professional position. </div>

    <div>Are you interested in a cultural exchange, but unable to study abroad? Apply today for the IDEAS STEAM Innovations virtual exchange! This 8-week program is focused on project-based learning and developing technical skills to tackle challenges within participants' communities, all while increasing cross-cultural understanding. Participants will gain a global perspective through weekly workshops, engaging activities, and networking opportunities. This program is ideal for students in which study abroad is not feasible or for those who have recently returned from an overseas experience and are looking to embark on another journey, albeit virtually. Those who successfully complete the program will become part of the U.S. Department of State's extensive alumni network, which provides access to additional opportunities, resources, career connections, and professional development. </div>

    <div>Eligibility Criteria: </div>

    <li>All majors welcomed! No prior technical experience is necessary.</li>
    <li>Must be in good standing with the university (recommendation letters are not required). </li>
    <li>A completed application, including a personal statement expressing interest in the program. </li>
    <li>English language proficiency is required; Arabic language proficiency is not required. </li>
    <li>Access to the internet is necessary to log onto the Discord discussion platform and Canvas. </li>

  <Title>Interested in Narrative-based Research? CoLab Summer 2025 Applications are Open!</Title>

    <p>CoLab is an in-person, paid summer internship in narrative-based research for UMBC undergraduates. Held during Summer Session One, student interns will work on interdisciplinary project teams to conduct research, create effective narratives, and develop public-facing final products that support the goals of on and off campus community-engaged organizations and scholars. Open to all majors, this is an excellent opportunity for students in <strong>STEM</strong> fields to learn to tell effective stories and for students in <strong>social science and humanities</strong> fields to gain research and technical skills.</p>
    <p><strong>Participants who successfully complete the internship receive a $3000 stipend and a tuition scholarship for the 3-credit internship course.</strong></p>
    <p><strong>Program Dates</strong><br>CoLab 2025 will be held during Summer Session One and meets in-person from <strong>Monday, June 2nd through Friday, June 27th</strong>. PLEASE NOTE: During these dates, student interns are required to dedicate Monday through Friday from 9:30 am – 4:00 pm to the in-person, on-campus internship. Participants will have preparatory work to complete on their own the week prior to the in-person start date of 6/2, and a final reflective paper to submit the week following the final in-person date of 6/27.</p>
