UMBC and its Office of International Education Services and Education Abroad Office continue to actively monitor the outbreak of COVID-19, a new respiratory illness also known as the coronavirus. There are currently no confirmed cases at UMBC.
As you may know, UMBC has suspended all university-related travel to any country that is under a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Risk Assessment Level 1, 2, or 3 related to COVID-19.
Based on the latest guidance and information, UMBC is now suspending ALL study abroad programs for the summer 2020 term.
This means that students will no longer be able to participate in study abroad programs this summer. We appreciate your patience as we are handling this high volume of communication.
This is extremely disappointing news for all of us. This decision is based on the latest information available by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and in consultation with the University System of Maryland, and is being made with your health and safety as our highest priority.
If you have not already done so, please bookmark this website, which details UMBC’s response to this outbreak. The Counseling Center has assembled a helpful list of self-care tips during this challenging time. We anticipate you will have many questions in the days and weeks ahead, so please do not hesitate to contact the Education Abroad Office by phone (410-455-8175) or email (educationabroad@umbc.edu). We will continue to post updates as the situation progresses and will communicate directly with you.
