The tools are focused on <a href="https://sustainability.umbc.edu/home/cap20/climate-resilience/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Climate Resilience</a> and <a href="https://sustainability.umbc.edu/explore/ej/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Environmental Social Justice. </a></span></div><div><span><br></span></div><h3><span>Climate Resilience </span></h3><div><span><br></span></div><div><h5><a href="https://www.arcgis.com/apps/dashboards/67f3f1ceeaee4d758c1c54e9ccb968ed" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">National Risk Index Dashboard</a></h5><p>This dashboard is designed to help the UMBC community better understand the implications of climate change both on campus and at their geographic home. Specifically, this tool address the risks and associated impacts, of climate change, on communities and the capabilities of communities to adapt and recover.</p><h5><a href="https://umbc-ges.maps.arcgis.com/apps/MapSeries/index.html?appid=c322249f52d64fc1910e976bc21e9943" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Retriever Resilience Resilience Mapper @ UMBC </a></h5><p>This tool, a companion to the UMBC Climate Action Plan, allows users to explore the various natural hazards that may impact campus. Users can look through a series of maps and features which are designed to help the UMBC community better understand the implications of climate change.</p></div><div><br></div><h3>Environmental Social Justice</h3><div><br></div><div><h5><a href="https://datastudio.google.com/reporting/8230fad1-ea82-4000-80ab-cc0ecde361d8/page/KvUJC?s=liY7xQRC-8s" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">EJ Screen @ UMBC</a></h5><p>EJSCREEN is an environmental justice mapping and screening tool that provides EPA with a nationally consistent dataset and approach for combining environmental and demographic indicators. EJ Screen @ UMBC is designed as an interactive dashboard and companion to the Environmental Justice Screening and Mapping Tool. The dashboard displays information about the 11 EJ indicators and UMBC’s demographics.</p><h5><a href="https://umbc-ges.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=6187452d31ed47b6b09e451a0359570c" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Environmental Justice Screening and Mapping Tool </a></h5><p>This tool is a “map-centric” application where the user can interact directly with the map or enable additional functionality by selecting widgets on the top banner. The tool is designed as a geographic companion for the EJ Screen @ UMBC Dashboard.</p><p><br></p></div></div>

  <Title>FEMA releases new National Risk Index (NRI)</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><p>The <a href="https://hazards.geoplatform.gov/portal/apps/MapSeries/index.html?appid=ddf915a24fb24dc8863eed96bc3345f8" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">National Risk Index</a> is a new, online mapping application from FEMA that identifies communities most at risk to 18 natural hazards. This application visualizes natural hazard risk metrics and includes data about expected annual losses, social vulnerabilities and community resilience. </p><p>The National Risk Index's interactive web maps are at the county and census tract level and made available via geographic information system (GIS) feature services for custom analyses. With this data, you can discover a holistic view of community risk to natural hazards via online maps and data.</p><p><br></p><p>The National Risk Index (NRI) is easy to use and can support prioritizing resilience efforts by providing an at-a-glance overview of multiple risk factors. The NRI can assist communities in:</p><ul><li>Updating emergency operations plans</li><li>Enhancing hazard mitigation plans</li><li>Prioritizing and allocating resources</li><li>Identifying the need for more refined risk assessments</li><li>Encouraging community-level risk communication and engagement</li><li>Educating homeowners and renters</li><li>Supporting adoption of enhanced codes and standards</li><li>Informing long-term community recovery</li></ul></div>
