Volunteer at Girl Power 2017 with us! We are excited to host the annual Girl Power event at APL’s Kossiakoff Center on this Sunday March 12th 2-5pm.  Girl Power in an exciting expo aimed at exposing middle and high school girls to potential STEM careers through hands-on activities, interactive demonstrations, and technology workshops.

SWE is looking for volunteers to help us with our booth from 1:30-5:30, in 30 minute time intervals. We need help especially during the 1:30-2 (set up), 2-2:30, and 2:30-3 time slots. We are going to set up a carpool, so please let us know if you can take people or need a ride. This would be a great opportunity to earn more points towards becoming an active SWE member!

SWE Freshmen Scholarships

Apply now for Society of Women Engineers' scholarships for the 2017-2018 academic year. Collegiates who will be freshman can apply online through May 1, 2017.

The SWE Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to women studying baccalaureate or graduate programs in preparation for careers in engineering, engineering technology and computer science. In 2016, SWE disbursed 230 new and renewed scholarships valued at over $750,000.

Collegiates complete one application and are considered for all scholarships for which they are eligible. The online application is entirely electronic — including submittal of reference recommendations and transcripts.

My name is Gregory Norris and I'm a UMBC Alum ('96).  I'm in a masters program at UMES now doing a paper on Women in Engineering and the effects that high school classes had on women's choices to continue in the Engineering field.  I was wondering if it would be possible to submit a survey to your SWE at UMBC.  I'm hoping to get women who are currently in college, or out, to let me know how High School engineering ( and STEM ) programs effected their choices.  What may have been a hindrance, etc.

  • Accountability

    • Earn the right to use SWE’s name on your resume, linkedin, etc.

  • Points System

    • Attending a meeting: 1 pt

    • Sharing on Social Media: 1 pt (If you share, please email your screenshot of the share to umbcswe@gmail.com)

    • Outreach Attendance: 2 pts

  • 5 pts: right to use SWE on official documentation

  • Official SWE membership is not mandatory, just put in the work!

Following the application deadline, we will begin reviewing applications and following up with those selected for the event. Not being selected for the on-campus assessment does not mean you won’t be considered for the SDE role.

 

Please also note that applying does not guarantee you an interview. If selected to attend the event on campus, we will follow up with an email with a link to gather your availability on whether or not you can make the event. If you are unable to attend, we will still ask that you please still fill out the survey to let us know your current job search status. If selected to interview through an alternative interview process, we will contact you via email with next steps.

 

The on campus interview will be a coding and problem solving proctored assessment, which will run for about 2.5 hours and serve as your official Amazon 2017 SDE Summer Internship interview.  This is an expedited process to our regular internship recruitment. The best way to prepare is to brush up on your basic CS fundamentals related to data structures, algorithms and general code related to C, C++, and Java.
