The Executive Board Officer Interest Form for Academic Year 2026-27 is NOW OPEN!!

Eligibility to run for a position includes the following requirements:
  • MUST BE a SWSA Member in good standing with the organization (have attended 3 events this academic year).
  • MUST PLAN to hold your position of interest for 1 full academic year.
Other additional eligibility requirements for specific positions are included on the interest form.

Open Positions & Responsibilities
President
  • Coordinating with other board members to ensure smooth running of the organization, including creating board meeting agendas and running the meetings
  • Serving as the organization's official representative for communicating with SGA and UMBC staff (including faculty advisor)
Vice President
  • Assuming the role of President in the event of the President's absence or incapacity
  • Assist all officers when/if needed

  • Organize and initiate elections for the following year

Treasurer
  • Managing the organization's funds and ensuring compliance with all financial rules and guidelines

  • Generally managing the finances of the club (submitting semesterly budgets, RESGAFs, keeping record of funds spent/available)

Secretary
  • Ensure membership statuses in myUMBC are correct by keeping accurate records of attendance at GBMs/service events
  • Recording and archiving information from meetings and activities
  • Manage edits to the constitution as needed
Public Relations Chair
  • Maintain myUMBC page, official GroupMe, and Instagram pages

  • Create graphics for events to share with board and members in a timely manner

On-Campus Service Chair
  • Coordinate regular (monthly) service events with on-campus service partnerships.
  • Manage required sign-ups, carpools, and waivers (if needed) for on-campus service events.
Off-Campus Service Chair
  • Coordinate regular (monthly) service events with off-campus service partnerships.
  • Manage required sign-ups, carpools, and waivers (if needed) for off-campus service events.
The interest form will close on April 8th.
The election will begin on April 15th, and end on April 22nd.
New officers will begin their terms on May 1.

Food Donation Service Event | Friday, April 4th from 9:00-11:30 am
  • Assisting in the transport of food donation items for the Wisdom Institute and Retriever Essentials.
  • Please contact Service Chair Danny Rascovar (drascov1@umbc.edu) for volunteer details. He needs 2-4 volunteers!
Blanket Making Service Event | Monday, April 7th from 12:00-1:00 pm | Sherman Hall B-Wing 334
  • SWSA members will create no-sew fleece blankets to donate to a nearby organization.

Last Day for Food Donations
The last day to drop off food donation items for our Wisdom Institute food drive will be April 4th! This is also the day of our Food Donation Service Event.

SWSA Fall 2026 Executive Board Election
If you are interested in nominating yourself for the SWSA main campus executive board for academic year 2025-2026, YOU MUST refer to the email sent from Ms. Aurora Rivera (aurorar2@umbc.edu) titled "SWSA Board Members Nomination Applications Open," sent on March 28th. This email includes the roles of the positions that are open for the upcoming academic year, requirements for running for a position, who to send your nomination statement to, and the last date to nominate yourself.

An online election form will be sent to SWSA Members on April 8th and voting will close on April 11th. Further questions must be directed to current board members through email or GroupMe.

With our informal/semi-formal, welcoming, and fun environment, SWSA is the perfect place to network and get connected with other social work students and faculty. Regardless of major, we provide on and off-campus volunteer experiences to students which allow you to learn hands-on skills that benefit our local communities. We also have amazing guest speaker/discussion events with accomplished social work professionals regarding various topics. There are no academic or fee requirements for joining or maintaining your status as a member, but we do highly prefer you try to make it to 3 events per semester!
