You’re invited to the 2026 UMBC Immigration Training Day hosted by the Center for Global Engagement on Friday, June 5!
If you’re curious about the immigration options available when hiring international talent at UMBC, you are welcome to join us for a full day of practical training, helpful tips, and guidance tailored specifically to UMBC processes.
Audience:
The Office of International Students and Scholars within the Center for Global Engagement is offering training sessions designed for Staff and Faculty who support or are interested in immigration-related matters at UMBC.
New this year! Session 4 will be presented in partnership with HR and was especially designed for Shared Services and Payroll teams.
Registration:
- Click on “Sign Up” then on “Add to Calendar” by Thursday, May 21st at the latest.
- If your plans change and you are not able to attend the event anymore, please update your response so we can offer your place to the next person in line.
- If registration is full, add your name in the comments section to be added to the waiting list.
Program:
9:15 am - Check in
9:30 - 10:45 am - Session 1 - F-1 and J-1 Students
Work options for students - regulations and Q&A.
10:55 am - 12:00 pm - Session 2 - J- 1 Scholars
Regulations and process for the J-1 Exchange Visitor category.
12:00 pm - 1:15 pm - Lunch
1:15 pm - 2:15 pm - Session 3 - H-1B employees
Regulations and process for the H-1B Specialty Worker category.
Understanding permanent residence processes.
2:25 pm - 3:15 pm - Session 4 - OISS & HR: immigration status updates
New! Session presented in partnership with HR: Daniel Umberger will share tips and tricks on status updates (glacier, I-9, documentation, citizenship forms, etc.).
This session may be particularly beneficial to Shared Services and Payroll teams.
3:15 pm - Closing remarks by Dr. David Di Maria, Vice Provost for International Education
