Developed through a groundbreaking partnership with <a href="https://givzey.com/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><strong>Givzey</strong></a>, a leader in AI solutions for non-profits, this initiative marks a new era in higher education philanthropy and alumni engagement. </div><div><br></div><div><div><a href="http://umbcretrievers.ai/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><img src="https://ai.umbc.edu/wp-content/uploads/sites/734/2026/02/sam_big.webp" alt="image of sam, UMBC's autonomous Virtual Engagement Officer" style="max-width: 100%; height: auto;"></a></div><div><br></div><div>The launch is a direct reflection of UMBC’s decades-long legacy as a trailblazer in AI research, applications, and education.

“The higher education landscape is changing rapidly, and UMBC must innovate to meet the demands of our growing community,” said Patrick Roche, UMBC Vice President of Institutional Advancement. “We believe technology is the key to unlocking the full potential of our team’s efforts, which is why we couldn’t be more thrilled to partner with Givzey to launch our Virtual Engagement Officer. This cutting-edge AI will allow us to dramatically expand our reach and deliver the type of personalized outreach that directly fuels our mission of inclusive excellence."</div><div><br></div><div>As UMBC continues to reach new heights—including <a href="https://umbc.edu/stories/welcome-retrievers-largest-incoming-class/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><strong>welcoming the largest incoming class in school history</strong></a> for two consecutive years—the demand for meaningful engagement has never been higher. It is to provide timely, personalized updates and information so our staff can spend more time in direct conversations with alumni.”</div><div><br></div><div>Alumni and members of the public are invited to learn more about this initiative and meet Sam by visiting <a href="https://www.umbcretrievers.ai/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><strong>umbcretrievers.ai</strong></a>.</div></div></div>
