Challenge Name: Welcome to the Gibson
I’ve spent years studying the legends of the Gibson, the ultimate fortress of cyberspace, and now I finally have a shot at breaking in. Rumor there’s something hidden just beneath the surface. The logs hint at a file that shouldn’t be there, tucked away where no one is supposed to look. If I can find it, maybe I’ll uncover a way in. The question is, where would a careless admin leave something so critical, and how do I get to it without tripping an alarm?

With the halfway point of the semester being passed, the CyberDawgs
wanted to offer everyone a meeting where they could relax, enjoy a
movie, and get some free food, snacks, candy, and drinks!
Tonight is a Cyber Movie Night! We will be showing Hackers. The movie will be in COMMONS 331.
Doors Open at 7:00 PM and the movie starts promptly at 7:15 PM, so make sure you arrive early to grab a seat and food. No Webex tonight, for legal reasons.
Free Food and Drinks?
Yes, there will be pizza, drinks (soda/water), popcorn, and candy!
Hackers (1995)
A teenage hacker finds himself framed for the theft of millions of dollars from a major corporation. Master hacker Dade Murphy, aka Zero Cool, aka Crash Override, has been banned from touching a keyboard for seven years after crashing over 1,500 Wall Street computers at the age of 11. Now keen to get back in front of a monitor, he finds himself in more trouble than ever.

Challenge Name: CRASH!
I found this license plate, that looked like the aftermath of a car crash, while being dragged to a Chinese restaurant by a very eager CyberDawg. When the vehicle the license plate belongs to would go on sale the next month, I wanted to know the auction lot number it would be held at. Find me that auction lot number, and encase it in Paws{}.

Gordon Ramsay sued me for stealing one of his recipes for my restaurants (In my defense, it was really good). Now I’m on the verge of bankruptcy, and the media keeps hounding me! They go to my house, they find me at Starbucks, they even show up to CyberDawgs meetings! They keep asking me questions, questions, questions. My lawyer (Saul Goodman, fantastic guy) advised me to reply to all their questions with “no comment”. But all I could think about was how did he know about where I hid all my [statements redacted by Goodman & Associates]???
He’s a great lawyer but sometimes a bit unethical. He recently sent me this mysterious file, he says it contains some incriminating chat logs of Gordon which may sway the case in our favor. Apparently he stole them from Gordon when he was busy shouting at one of his contestants on his show. I looked at the file, but I didn’t see any evidence, but maybe you can find it?
Anyways, I hope I win this case soon, I can’t afford to be featured on another news headline...

Challenge Name: Panic! At the Kernel
Yes, it happened again. As I'm sure you're already aware, our company was hit with another ransomware attack. Phishing emails, am I right? Well, we paid the ransom (against my better judgment), and everything was supposed to be fine. But Jenkins decided to be "funny" instead of keeping things professional. He thought it would be hilarious to heckle the ransomware operators.
Turns out, they value their pride almost as much as they value my money, and they activated the ransomware’s self-destruct mechanism. Click, click, boom. Simulated kernel panic. They nuked our critical server into a death spiral of failed reboots. Three times it tried to recover, and three times it crashed again. Now it’s completely stuck, and the poor thing was only up 36 maybe 37 hours.
Fortunately, the ransomware’s seppuku signal uses a toggle mechanism. The same key that brought it down should be able to bring it back up. It’s in the kernel panic syslogs somewhere. Find it, yea?
You deal with that and I'll deal with Jenkins.
