Hear from our D&I staff, student organization leaders, Religious Council Members, and recent alums about navigating UMBC as a religious/spiritual student. Join us to make new connections, join a new group, learn about campus resources, and see what this community can offer you! Summer Lunch & Learn: Wearable Sensors and Infrared Cameras: Fostering Interdisciplinary Research at UMBC

This talk will be followed by a period of Q&A, so either post your questions in the comment section before the event starts, or in the WebEx chat once the event starts.“Interdisciplinarity” is a term frequently used in academia. But what is it, and how does a public university like UMBC promote interdisciplinary research while making it accessible to students and faculty? The User Studies Labs (USL), located in the Information Systems Department, equipped and managed by the Interactive Systems Research Center (ISRC), offer an answer to that question. Join Dr. Andrea Kleinsmith and learn how newly acquired wearable sensors and infrared cameras for measuring human behavior enables collaborative research across various disciplines at UMBC, and helps faculty integrate teaching and research.
Anti Racism and Action: Our Roles Now

The Dresher Center for the Humanities, Center for Social Science Scholarship, and Center for Innovation, Research, and Creativity in the Arts invite you to attend the second Anti-Racism and Action: Our Roles Now Drop-in Session on Friday July 24th at 1:00 P.M. to consider how we can continue to use our roles as faculty, teachers, chairs/directors, graduate students, or mentors to work toward racial justice, social change, civic action, community action, and pedagogical engagement. This session follows the momentum started in the first Anti-Racism and Action session held on June 12. We will discuss how we can continue anti-racism work on our campus and in our communities as we transition from summer to the fall semester. One focus of this session will be a discussion of memorials, including the removal of monuments in Baltimore and across the country, from the perspective of art history, African American history, and social justice. We will also consider potential ways to carry the work forward by partnering with local schools.
