  <Title>PAID Summer Research Opportunity for Pre-Med Students!</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div>Each summer, fifteen students are selected from a nationwide competition to join SRTP. Each student is assigned to a specific MGH laboratory, clinical site, health policy, or health services research area where they undertake an original research project under the mentorship and guidance of a Mass General Hospital (MGH) investigator. Assignments are carefully considered and are made with the student's research and career interests in mind. In addition to this unique research experience, students will gain knowledge through weekly didactic seminars, both at the MGH and at Harvard Medical School, and have opportunities for clinical shadowing.</div><p> </p><h3>Program Terms</h3><p>The Summer Research Trainee Program is a mandatory eight week program, running from <span>Monday, June 13 to Thursday, August 4, 2016</span>. Students are paired with an MGH faculty preceptor who provides guidance and mentorship in a new or ongoing research project.</p><div>Students are expected to:<ul><li>Attend a full day orientation on Monday, June 13, 2016</li><li>Prepare an abstract of the research project</li><li>Prepare an oral presentation of their work at the completion of the program</li><li>Attend mandatory, weekly didactic seminars</li><li>Complete all program, hospital and occupational health requirements (e.g. proof of health insurance, vaccinations)</li></ul></div></div>

    <Title>Researcher of the Week: Paul Tschirgi</Title>

      <![CDATA[
          <div class="html-content"><p>Meet Paul,<br>He is an Animation and Interactive Media major who is currently creating his own video game.</p><p>His game, <em>Deliverance</em> brings together many technologies to capture aspects of real life in an immersive world. The project captured live performances of musicians and original choreographed dancers which Paul then translated to his fabricated game characters by filming the performances from multiple angles. The video was then used to manually animate three-dimensional characters created according to drawing concepts in a computer program.</p></div>

          <div class="html-content"><p>Meet Sean,<br>He is a Chemical Engineering major and corresponding secretary for Tau Beta Pi (TBP), the Engineering Honor Society. He is currently working on the synthesis and characterization of 3D graphene nanosheets to be used as support for electrocatalysts in a fuel cell.</p><p>Sean recently completed work at the University of New Mexico Nanoscience and Microsystems Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program.</p><p>He hopes to complete a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and become a professor at a research university in the future.</p></div>

She is currently researching a flexible approach to treating the Ebola virus.</span><div><p><br></p><p>Natalie is also President of the American Chemical Society at UMBC (also known as the Chemistry/Biochemistry Council of Majors) and is also a member of the UMBC Symphony Orchestra.</p><p>Upon graduation, Natalie will attend graduate school to obtain a PhD in neuroscience.     <div class="html-content"><p>Meet Sara,<br><br></p><p>She is a Biology major who has done research at the National Cancer Institute and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease. She currently works in Dr. Philip Farabaugh’s laboratory and is also President of the Food Recovery Network, an organization whose mission is to recover food from dining services on campus and donate it to local homeless shelters. Her future plan is to become a physician.</p><p>Sara is also a member of the Muslim Student Association and serves as a photographer for the Retriever Weekly.</p><p>Sara’s research involves determining how errors in protein synthesis are regulated.</p></div>
