The University of Rochester’s Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) programs provide women and underrepresented minority students pursuing careers in STEM with intensive mentored multidisciplinary research experiences. During a nine-week summer program, students are immersed in hands-on scientific research alongside experienced faculty and other researchers, participate in a series of professional development workshops, and attend seminars focused on research techniques, career exploration and graduate school admission.
There are 3 programs that students can choose to apply to:
- Advancing Human Health, From Nano to Network: This program provides an interdisciplinary framework for faculty and students to utilize hypothesis-driven research to advance human health.
- Nano-, Bio-, and Quantum Photonics: This program will engage participating students in the frontiers of photonics research in nanoscience, bioscience and quantum science while at the same time providing them with experiences to recognize the excellent career opportunities, both academic and industry based, available in photonics.
- Computational Methods for Understanding Music, Media, and Minds: Students will explore an exciting, interdisciplinary research area that combines machine learning, audio engineering, music theory, and cognitive science.
Full explanations for each program (and more detailed information) can be found on the REU website.
Benefits for participating in one of the programs include:
- a $4,500 stipend,
- travel to and from the program,
- housing, and
- meal plan
Students who are of sophomore or junior-class standing are encouraged to apply.
Application Deadline (for all 3 programs): FEB 15, 2018
