In celebration of a historic UMBC undergraduate publication and the university's Year of the Arts, the Bartleby+ exhibition presents a retrospective of works from Bartleby, the undergraduate creative arts journal, published since 1972. (An early iteration, The Red Brick, saw a single issue published in 1969.) Bartleby remains a vital part of our campus community as a voice for undergraduate student creativity, including fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, and art.
The exhibition will feature selections of photographs, poems, and posters, all created by undergraduate artists originally published in Bartleby. Additionally, archival issues of the journal will be on display.
Both the exhibition opening and offsite reading will include readings and discussions by alumni published in Bartleby. The exhibition opening will also include a catered reception, remarks from the curatorial team and Student Affairs leadership, and the opportunity to explore the publication's history through interpretive works, ephemera, and more.
