Sustainability Community Input Needed
Help the team rebuild the planet
UMBC's
Office of Sustainability (OoS) is seeking input to support campus
progress. The OoS published a draft
Sustainability &
Climate Action Plan on its website, along with a link for public
comments. We hope you will take the chance to review and comment!

annual survey helps the OoS assess sustainability knowledge, attitudes,
and practices. This is your opportunity to comment on our performance, identify

How would you like to represent all of those students as a member of the
Board of Regents, the system's governing body?
Please take a look at this
description of the Student Regent position and consider applying. Please also pass the information along to friends who may be interested. The Student Regent will serve from July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2028, including as the voting Student Regent in 2027-2028. All applicants should be planning to graduate in spring 2028 or later.
The application deadline is Monday, November 3 at 5 p.m.

You will play a key role on one of our four core teams; you can indicate your team preference on the application:
- Sponsorship: Builds relationships with sponsors, oversees catering, and manages volunteer support during events.
- Technology: Develops and maintains hackUMBC's website, event tools, and judging system to ensure a smooth experience for participants.
- Marketing: Leads outreach and promotion through social media, myUMBC, and campus advertising, and collaborates with external partners.
- Design: Creates event branding, graphics, and merchandise, and designs the overall visual theme and venue layout.
Application Deadline: October 25th
Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis, so make sure to submit your application as soon as possible!

UMBC undergrads invited to participate in study on reliance on AI for writing
Shahin Hossain, a PhD student in Language, Literacy, and Culture, is conducting a research study on how undergraduate students use generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT, and the impact on their writing. The goal is to better understand how these advanced technologies are changing writing practices and behavior.
Current UMBC undergraduate students who have used AI technologies for academic purposes in their writing are invited to complete an online survey, which should take no more than 10 minutes.
