Accessibility Updates Coming to myUMBC
As we approach our late-April accessibility compliance deadline, we want to share a clear roadmap of the changes coming to myUMBC and what they mean for you.
Phase 1: Content Checks & Preview
Coming later during the week of March 23rd.
Content Checks
When editing a Post or Event, you'll see a new Content Checks section that flags accessibility issues before publishing, such as missing alt text on images or broken links.
Previously, you could publish posts and events without addressing accessibility issues. That is no longer the case, flagged issues must be resolved before content can go live.
Preview & Publish
The publish button has been replaced with a Preview & Publish button. Clicking it takes you to a preview of your content where you can:
- Review how it will appear to readers
- Return to edit if needed
- Send a preview of the notification email to yourself
- Share the preview link with teammates for review
- Publish to make it live
Phase 2: Content Archiving
In late-April, any content with unresolved accessibility issues published before January 1, 2023 will be marked as archived. The most common issue is images missing alt text.
Admins will have access to a report showing all of their group's flagged content. If you resolve issues before mid-April, that content will not be archived.
Here's what to expect for content that is archived:
- It will appear under a new Archived filter in your group

URLs will not change, so existing links won't break
- Archived content is read-only, but you can edit and republish it at any time
- It will display a prominent banner indicating the content is archived and may not be current
For departmental websites: If your site pulls in myUMBC group content, no changes are needed on your end. Archiving will be reflected automatically on your site.
Why This Matters
These changes reflect UMBC's institutional commitment to making myUMBC accessible to everyone. The goal is to make compliance as manageable as possible — catching issues early, giving you visibility into your content, and providing time to act before archiving occurs.

Please join me in welcoming Christopher (Chris) McLenithan as the new contingent Purchasing Specialist within Shared Services.
Chris joined CNMS in March 2026 with a range of purchasing experience and technical skills. Previously, Chris was a member of UMBC's DoIT department working on training, cloud services, software purchases, and other supportive
functions.
Chris will be shadowing with our current CNMS staff to

Week 7 of Table Top Gaming Club
Paint Night has arrived (tremble in fear)
Welcome to week 7 of the Tabletop Gaming Club!
Hope you all had a relaxing and refreshing spring break, and got done some of the work piling up across the semester (I sure didn't!)
Tonight is the night! From 7-10pm tonight Tuesday March 24th, we will be hosting our semesterly Miniature and Dice painting night! in the Commons Sports zone! (2nd floor of commons by Sushi-Do) please come join us for a relaxing night of miniature and dice painting with possibly some giveaways sprinkled in! The event is 100% free and you will be able to keep what you paint, so please feel free to bring your friends. And show some love on the myUMBC event and click that you’re attending the event (it helps us get funding next time).
As an additional note, club will NOT be held in the regular club room of ILSB 116B during this time, it will however resume at the regular time and place this Thursday as we continue Match Madness! (Though technically we probably still have the reservation for tonight so you can probably go there if you really want)

FALL 2026 Registration -- Advising Updates
Get prepared for next semester now!
Welcome back from Spring Break! Guess what?!? It's ADVISING SEASON!
Registration for Fall 2026 is right around the corner which means that you will want to plan to meet with your assigned major advisor ASAP in order to discuss your academic plan and receive advising clearance.
Keep in mind that advising is MANDATORY every semester and must be completed prior to registration for the upcoming school term.
Check your myUMBC email (sent on or around March 2nd) for your advisor assignment and further instructions.
Advisor assignments can also be found via the CNMS Advising website here (by major) and via your myUMBC Profile.
Newly or recently declared life science majors who do not have a listed advisor assignment should contact CNMSAdvising@umbc.edu for support.
NOTE**: The FALL 2026 Schedule of Classes went LIVE TODAY (3/23). You can begin reviewing course/schedule options right away however you will want to take note of your earliest registration date/time (based on earned credits). A comprehensive chart for all registration dates/times can be found here. Initial registration times for undergraduate students will begin as early as March 31st for students who have earned 120 credits or more and will continue in descending earned credit order through to April 17th when all continuing students are eligible. You can verify your specific date/time for registration via your myUMBC account. **
SUMMER 2026 Registrationbegan on March 2nd. Advising is not mandatory for summer registration however you will want to discuss your plans with your assigned advisor in order to confirm accurate Fall 2026 course suggestions. If you intend to take courses at another institution during this time you will first need to complete a Verification of Transferability Form at least three weeks PRIOR to your registration elsewhere. Advisor support/signatures are needed for major-related coursework only. A helpful video guide to the VOT can be found HERE.

Bridging the Gap: Industry Power Skills Series for Graduate Students and Postdocs
Grad school should be more than research and classes, let's write a "playbook" of how the professional world work and how can we meet their expectations, let's get ready to join the workforce. Join us for three discussions where we’ll troubleshoot the "human" side of work and learn from each other's experiences.
1. Tuesday, March 24, at 12 PM (noon) in Commons 331.
2. Tuesday, April 14, at 12 PM (noon) in Commons 318.
The Social Architect: A deep dive into "style-flexing" to help us navigate diverse, multi-cultural, and multi-generational teams.
3. Tuesday, April 28, at 12 PM (noon) in Commons 318.
Leading Without Authority: A collaborative session on how to steer a project or meeting effectively, even when you aren't the one in charge.
No lectures, just real talk and shared strategies. RSVPs are appreciated but not required. See you there!
