Environmentalists are out to DESTROY YOU!!!

When we recently saw a DVD titled “Resisting the Green Dragon,” we were thought it had to be a bad 1980’s Kung-Fu movie.

We were wrong… it was MUCH WORSE than an 80’s Kung-Fu movie…

This 12-piece DVD set comes from a coalition of religious groups, including Right Wing Watch.

It battles with the newest demon to threaten the world as we know it: ENVIRONMENTALSTS!!!!

Check out this bit from the press release:

“One of the greatest threats to society and the church today is the multifaceted environmentalist movement,” says Cornwall Alliance founder and national spokesman Dr. E. Calvin Beisner. “There isn’t an aspect of life that it doesn’t seek to force into its own mold.”

Essentially, this series intends to dispel “rumors” of climate change and delegitimize “radical environmentalists”.

Evidently Right Wing Watch thinks environmentalists intend not to save the planet but to (insert scary music here) destroy the Bible and Christianity as we know it!!!

We at US Democrazy are huge supporters of democracy, and enjoy a robust discussion on issues of the day.

But we also think crazy contributors to this discussion should be challenged vigorously.

Do you think “Resisting the Green Dragon” is a little on the crazy-side?

My Technology Resolutions for 2011

We make all kinds of resolutions each year so I thought I would add a category for technology resolutions. Here are a three technology resolutions for 2011.

    1. Be more Social.
In this case I mean be more active with social media tools such as LinkedIn, Facebook, and twitter. I have been on these for years but not been very active. In 2011, my resolution is to actually use these to stay more connected with my friends and colleagues. For UMBC, my resolution is to be more active on our blog sites and share more information through blogging. You can track my progress on twitter as jjsuess.

    2. Look to the clouds.
At present I am tied to my laptop and depend on it for most of my work. I carry it home every night to do email. I want to rely on my iPad and iPhone much more extensively and want to be able to do my work from any device at any location. For me, my resolution is to embrace google docs and use tools like dropbox to sync my documents. Over the course of the year i will let you know how it goes.

    3. Lose five pounds.
Every day I lug a backpack that has my laptop, power cord, and other assorted stuff that runs about 12 pounds ( without papers). I want to reduce that by at least five pounds. If I can succeed on the other two goals I should be able to get a smaller laptop or get away with using the iPad at home and leave the laptop back at work.

I’ll add these some of my other resolutions and update you on how I did in a year.

Let me know if you have any technology resolutions, I can be reached at

Bringing in the New Year, the fresh start, the clean slate, a hopeful resolution, or even the continuation of something great, the world celebrates …. and celebrates …. and celebrates with a peculiar sense of excitement.

Let’s take a look at how the world shed 2010 and boldly stepped into 2011.

New York, U.S. – The legendary ball drop in Time Square.

London, England – The traditional red, white, and blue fireworks that encompass, Parliament, the London Eye, and the River Thames.

Italy – Illegal fireworks, “shot off in squares and alleys – a tradition that usually results in numerous hand and eye injuries.”

France – Rampant youth set fire to dozens of vehicles, also illegal.

Scotland – Beginning with the four-day Hogmanay festival of a night with a torch-lit procession in Edinburgh, nearly 25,000 people marched to “the top of a hill to watch the burning of a model Viking Ship.

Netherlands – People ate deep-fried dough balls covered in powdered sugar and washed it down with champagne.

Austria – They waltz in the New Year, carrying radios and dancing to Strauss’ “Blue Danube.”

Denmark – People jump off chairs to “leap into the new year.”

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – A gathering of 2 million people on Copacabana beach for fireworks, music, and grand party.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates – Extravagant fireworks shot from Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building.

South Korea – 80,000 people watched a traditional bell ringing ceremony and fireworks.

Japan – Monks chanted while citizens released hundreds of silver balloons with notes inside.

Vietnam – An estimated 55,000 people counted down to the New Year in a rave party in front of Hanoi’s elegant French colonial-style opera house.

Hong Kong, China – Fireworks set off from the city’s 10 most famous buildings and seen along Victoria Harbor.

Australia – 1.5 spectators witnessed the midnight sky sparkling with colorful fireworks over Sydney Harbor.

Spain – 50,000 people wearing colored wigs gathered in Madrid’s central Puerta del Sol square and ate a grape for each of the 12 chimes of midnight.

Whatever the tradition may be around the globe, hope is a common ingredient to usher in the New Year.
