PAID Service-Learning Intern Positions for Fall
The Shriver Center has 2 Service-Learning Intern positions open for the Fall 2010 semester. Interns play a pivotal role in The Shriver Center's Service-Learning Program, which places nearly 600 UMBC students each year at service sites. Service-Learning Interns are student leaders who aspire to take on a more challenging role to lead various service sites.
Open positions:
• Project Team Service-Learning Intern – Provide activities for children that help them develop their team building and social skills in this after school program, which takes place at the Baltimore City Boys and Girls Club in Franklin Square on Mondays and the Glen Burnie Boys and Girls Club on Wednesdays. The Intern drives the group to the sites and leads the activities on Mondays (in Baltimore city) and Wednesdays (in Glen Burnie) from 4-7pm.
• College Night Mentoring Program Service-Learning Intern – Assist adolescent participants of The Choice Program with academics and development of positive social skills. Intern coordinates educational and recreational activities for the program on Mondays from 5pm-8:15pm.
Benefits:
Each S-L Intern receives a $300-750 stipend for the semester, and a Service-Learning Leadership notation on their transcript with their enrollment in the 096 Practicum.

UMBC’s Baja racing team claimed top honors in the United States for its performance in the three North American Baja SAE events held in 2010.
That result marked the highpoint of a season that also saw the team receive recognition for being the lowest cost entry at each event.
“We are extremely proud of UMBC’s Baja team for showing how technical knowledge, hard work, innovation and team work can lead to success in addressing a complex engineering challenge,” said Warren DeVries, dean of the College of Engineering and Information Technology.
Teams competing in Baja SAE events must design, build and drive off-road racing vehicles that are judged in multiple design and performance categories. Close to 100 teams competed in each of the regional events in 2010, with about 10 traveling to all of them.
The Mike Schmidt Memorial Iron Team Award, awarded to the team with the top cumulative score from the three races, went to Ecole De Technologie Superieure, an engineering school in Montreal. UMBC came in second, and Universite Laval in Quebec was third. Other universities with teams that competed in all three races included Rochester Institute of Technology, the University of South Florida and Michigan State University.
Though UMBC has participated in Baja SAE events for years, 2010 was the first year the team entered all three regional events. Steve Storck, captain of the team of 11 engineering students, said the group’s work amounted to building a car from scratch.
“It’s really nice to realize your design and have all the hard work pay off,” said Storck, who is pursuing a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering.
One member of the team, Sam Markkula, has graduated and is now working for Lockheed Martin. Other members – James Clerkin, Rich Glendening, Chuck Hebert, Justin Jones, Pete Mech, Eric Meyer, Sal Nimer, Dave Outen and Caroline Scheck – are all continuing undergraduate and graduate studies at UMBC.
According to the rules, the team must redesign 30 percent of its car to compete again in 2011. Storck says work has already started to go far beyond that with a completely new design: “We hope to do even better next year.”

All binary submissions to iTunes Connect must now be uploaded using Application Loader either through Xcode's built-in App Submission process, or directly using the Application Loader software. This offers a significantly improved experience over uploading through iTunes Connect, including faster uploading, a more stable connection, and early validation warnings. Make sure the status of your app in iTunes Connect is Waiting for Upload before you submit your binary.
Read the Distributing Applications section of the iOS Development Guide for more information about preparing your app for submission to iTunes Connect.

iTunes Connect now offers exciting new features and enhancements. The iTunes Connect Developer Guide (version 6.0) provides details about these features and how you can take advantage of them, including:
- Using the new Version Release Control to choose when your new app version goes live on the App Store;
- Delivering binaries using Application Loader;
- New states for your app including Prepare for Upload, Pending Developer Release, and Processing for App Store;
