Check your myUMBC email for more information.
Registration for Fall 2026 is just around the corner which means that you will want to plan to meet with your assigned major advisor in order to discuss your academic plan and to remove your advising hold.
Keep in mind that advising is MANDATORY every semester and must be completed prior to registration for the upcoming term.
Check your myUMBC email (sent today -- March 3rd) for your advisor assignment and further instructions. Subject Line: "IMPORTANT: Advising Assignment for **FALL 2026** Registration." Updated advising assignments can also be found on your myUMBC profile.
Newly or recently declared life science majors who do not have a listed advisor assignment should contact
CNMSAdvising@umbc.edu for support.
Most importantly, please follow any instructions provided by your assigned advisor regarding their procedure for scheduling an advising appointment and the deadlines that they set. Most faculty advisors begin offering advising appointments closer to the release of the spring schedule (March 23rd).

On behalf of the UMBC Strategic Plan Steering Committee, I am writing with an update on our progress developing the strategic plan and to outline next steps for communications and community engagement.
The Five Strategic Plan Pillars and Subgroups
The steering committee and its five pillar subgroups have met this semester to advance our work. The work of each subgroup will be informed by the insights, expertise, ideas, and perspectives of our campus community members. As a reminder, the five strategic plan pillars are:
- Grow Student Opportunity and Success
- Transform Teaching and Learning
- Redefine Excellence in Research and Creative Achievement
- Cultivate Organizational Innovation and Vitality
- Strengthen Maryland and Its Communities
How to Stay Informed and Participate
Starting this month, the pillar subgroups will offer several engagement opportunities for the community. Here is how you can ensure you are updated and involved:
- Follow the myUMBC Strategic Planning group to receive immediate updates on planned community engagement activities as they are scheduled.
- Visit our updated strategic planning website. Starting this Friday, March 6, the site will feature a new feedback form to provide a direct way for you to share your voice with the committee.
- Look for brief, regular email reminders about strategic planning news beginning this Friday.
Thank you for your interest in this process. The Strategic Plan Steering Committee looks forward to engaging with you and receiving your valuable input as we continue this critical planning process.

Week 5 of Tabletop Gaming Club
Start of March Madness
Welcome to week 5 of the Tabletop Gaming Club!
Unfortunately (or fortunately for some) no class delays today, so club is on!
As per usual we will be meeting in ILSB116B from 7-10pm Tonight March 3rd, and Thursday March 5th!
As for events: Tonight marks the beginning of our annual
MARCH MADNESS! tonight we will host signups alongside usual club activities for our month long competition! You must signup to be able to receive prizes at the end, though signups will continue through the next 3 meetings. Teams may consist of up to 5 people, (minimum 2) so come up with a cool name and have fun! Each meeting our officers will bring a curated selection of games that will be used for scored matches for participating teams (though everyone is free to play), you may only have 2 scored game per night, and must inform an officer that the game will be scored ahead of time. Please reach out to club president

This survey aims to understand your experiences in your major, classroom interactions and environment, campus involvement and resources, and the diversity and inclusion within COEIT. As this is the first time we’re offering this survey since 2016, your feedback is incredibly valuable in helping the COEIT community collect critical benchmarking data.
Survey Deadlines & Prize Drawing:

- Final deadline: Friday, April 10, 2026

[REPOST] Seeking Participants for Social Justice Dialogue Cohort Experiences
Faculty, staff and students: apply for SJDCE today!
The Social Justice Dialogues Cohort Experience (SJDCE) at UMBC invites participants from all perspectives and experiences to engage in meaningful conversations across difference. Rooted in intergroup dialogue theory, SJDCE provides a space to learn and practice the skills, tools, and mindsets necessary for effective communication across diverse identities and lived experiences — with courage, empathy, and openness.
The Social Justice Dialogue Cohort Experiences at UMBC are 8 two-hour dialogue circles that bring together students, faculty, and staff, to engage in sustained, facilitated dialogue across difference. Each cohort meets weekly within one of UMBC's vibrant cultural centers: The Mosaic, The Pride Center, and The Gathering Space.
In a time of growing polarization and deepening social divides, and fear surrounding living authentically, the Social Justice Dialogues Cohort Experience (SJDCE) offers a way forward, not through debate or persuasion, but through connection, listening, and shared learning.
Cohorts will be split between faculty/staff and students (both undergraduate and graduate), allowing participants to forge meaningful relationships with peers similarly passionate about social change, leadership and humanizing pedagogies.
Students interested in applying for the pilot program can do so here. Additionally, faculty and staff can nominate students by emailing csjdialogue@umbc.edu by March 10.

This is a pilot that is a part of a larger research project, meaning cohort sizes are limited and the 2026 sessions will be used to collect data for assessment purposes.
