This semester we've introduced a new Foosball Ladder that you can join. This ladder will be shared on a monthly basis.
To join the ladder, follow the steps below:
- Check in with the desk staff to be entered or to set up a game
- Play your game against your opponent
- Once your game is finished, report back to the desk with your win or loss so your record can be updated
If you have any feedback or requests for things you'd like to see in the Gameroom, let us know using our Gameroom Improvement Form.

Seeking Participants for Social Justice Dialogue Cohort Experiences
Faculty, staff and students: apply for SJDCE today!
The Social Justice Dialogues Cohort Experience (SJDCE) at UMBC invites participants from all perspectives and experiences to engage in meaningful conversations across difference. Rooted in intergroup dialogue theory, SJDCE provides a space to learn and practice the skills, tools, and mindsets necessary for effective communication across diverse identities and lived experiences — with courage, empathy, and openness.
The Social Justice Dialogue Cohort Experiences at UMBC are 8 two-hour dialogue circles that bring together students, faculty, and staff, to engage in sustained, facilitated dialogue across difference. Each cohort meets weekly within one of UMBC's vibrant cultural centers: The Mosaic, The Pride Center, and The Gathering Space.
In a time of growing polarization and deepening social divides, and fear surrounding living authentically, the Social Justice Dialogues Cohort Experience (SJDCE) offers a way forward, not through debate or persuasion, but through connection, listening, and shared learning.
Cohorts will be split between faculty/staff and students (both undergraduate and graduate), allowing participants to forge meaningful relationships with peers similarly passionate about social change, leadership and humanizing pedagogies.
Students interested in applying for the pilot program can do so here. Additionally, faculty and staff can nominate students by emailing csjdialogue@umbc.edu by March 10.
Faculty and staff can apply here. Applications are due by March 12.
This is a pilot that is a part of a larger research project, meaning cohort sizes are limited and the 2026 sessions will be used to collect data for assessment purposes.
These events are open for full participation by all individuals regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, or any other protected category under applicable federal law, state law, and the University's nondiscrimination policy.

This month is a time to recognize the progress women have made, honor the barriers that have been broken, and acknowledge the work that still lies ahead. Stories & Success was created to intentionally bring those conversations to our campus — to give graduate students direct access to women who have navigated advanced degrees, leadership roles, and competitive industries.
Hosted by the Office of Graduate Student Life and the Career Center, this evening is designed with graduate students in mind — though all are welcome to attend.
Join us on Monday, March 23, from 5–8PM in the Skylight Room (The Commons, 3rd Floor) for a keynote address from UMBC President Dr. Sheares Ashby, followed by a dynamic panel discussion featuring four accomplished women leaders who understand the graduate journey firsthand. The evening will conclude with an interactive Q&A and networking, giving you the opportunity to engage directly with both the President and panelists.
Business casual attire is encouraged. A professional photo booth will be available for those interested in updated headshots.

Center for Innovation, Research, and Creativity in the Arts (CIRCA) presents Filipinx-American composer, percussionist, and sound artist
Susie Ibarra, who will present her groundbreaking work at UMBC in a concert, spatial audio installation, and workshop. Ibarra’s interdisciplinary practice focuses on strengthening connections to the natural environment and advocating for stewardship through sound. Ibarra’s work calls upon Asian percussive traditions, jazz sensibilities, as well as on her extensive study in a wide range of interests, including improvisation, sonic mapping, and artistic intervention for societal transformation. The concert will include performances by UMBC music students and faculty.
A spatial audio installation will open at 6:30, followed by a concert at 7:30.
Admission is free, but tickets are required. Please

Inclusive excellence has long been a cultural touchstone at UMBC. Before
now, we haven't had a definition or any other shared language to
describe what we mean. This is your chance to inform our definition.
Leaders in the Division of Institutional Equity have drafted a framework
for inclusive excellence, and we want your input!
The framework
aims to articulate our community's shared commitments in a way that can
communicate our values, guide action, inspire new collaboration, and

Steam generator failure
All,
Last night steam generator 1B suffered a tube rupture. The generator has been isolated and a tube bundle replacement is underway. We anticipate 2 – 3 days to have the generator bundle replaced. While isolating the generator we discovered a leaking packing gland on one of the steam isolation valves. It is likely we will be able to repack the valve, however if we are unable to this may delay returning the system to operation.
Fortunately this was a small leak and the HTHW was properly cooled and drained though the quenching system. With no external damage in the mechanical room.
Currently the steam system is generating about 20 psi of steam. This will not be enough to operate your autoclaves and will result in low humidity in the vivarium.
We do have the stand alone autoclave on the third floor right hand side available for such emergencies. With this being the only autoclave in the building over the next few days, I'm requesting that everyone be prompt and attentive while using this autoclave as we have 17 research groups in the building most using an autoclave. I would also request that if you are autoclaving biohazardous waste, that you bring the autoclaved bags back to your research labs home floor for evening disposal.

UMBC's student Neurodiversity Club is hosting a mixer in Lower Flat Tuesdays for their members to build connections with neurotypical students. Faculty and Staff are encouraged to drop in.
When: March 4. 4:30 - 7:30 pm
Location: The Commons, Lower Flat Tuesdays
The Vibe: There will be stations for board games, special interests, and pizza.
Be an Anchor: The student group e-board would very much like for neurodivergent faculty and staff to drop by and lend their support.
March 12: Create a Sensory Map of The Commons

Neurodiversity Summer Program from Stanford University: SNP-BRIDGE
SNP-BRIDGE, "Bridging Resilience, Inclusive Dialogue, Growth in advocacy, & Empowered
leadership," is a virtual two-week summer program specifically for college-bound and
early college students to engage in neurodiversity advocacy. Students will develop hands-on neurodiversity advocacy projects that will not only enhance their own college experience, but also build leadership and community that can contribute to the broader efforts of the neurodiversity movement.
