AOK Library's Spotlight! Symposium, titled "Are You Good? Checking In With Maryland's Young Adults"

This annual symposium brings together UMBC faculty, students, alumni, and community members for a thoughtful conversation about the lives of Maryland's young adults aged 18-25, the challenges they face and the hope on the horizon.
This year's lineup includes speakers from the Charlestown Assisted Living community, who will join not just as guests but as presenters, making this a truly intergenerational dialogue. The program is designed to elevate underrepresented voices and is accompanied by a librarian-curated reading guide by Katy Sullivan.

Nominate a student for the Mary Akaras Book Award!
The Dresher Center for the Humanities seeks nominations for students eligible to receive the Mary Akaras Scholarship Book Award for $500 toward the purchase of texts. The student should have a minimum GPA of 3.00, should be pursuing a major in a Humanities field, should not already be receiving significant scholarship funds, and should not be in his/her final semester at UMBC.
Faculty members are asked to nominate students with a short letter of recommendation sent electronically to Kate Drabinski at
drabinsk@umbc.edu. A student may self-nominate but a faculty letter is needed in support of his or her application. Letters should include any information, including academic and professional achievements, that make the candidate an extraordinary student who would benefit from this award. The deadline for Spring 2026 nominations is

Our event will also include a Q&A with the filmmaker herself, Xinyan Yu, along with discussants, Tracy Tinga (MCS) and Guenet Abraham (Visual Arts). During his 17-year tenure at WTCI, Eddie Resende has developed many initiatives for the organization, including international business and diplomacy fellowships and conferences, the Global Economic Outlook Report, World-Lens Podcast, and the Maryland Innovation Lab.
Eddie and his family migrated to the United States from Brazil when he was 11. He is an advocate for human rights issues, and today serves as the chairman of the board at New American Careers, a social enterprise that connects immigrant professionals to employment opportunities in the U.S. In 2023, Eddie was recognized as one of Maryland's Most Influential Leaders by the Daily Record.

Pick Up a Phyical Card: When Encountering a Federal Immigration Agent on Campus

We received phyical cards to distrubite to the International Faculty Association, specifically quick guidance on what to do when encountering a federal immigration agent on campus.
The cards are at Sherman 418. Please drop by to pick up a card. Before the spring break, you may pick up a card at Sherman 418 on March 2, 10-6pm, March 4th 12-6 pm and March 9th 10-6 pm.
