Clarification Regarding Recent "Welcome to UMBC" Emails

<Tagline>Important update on the recent automated account emails.</Tagline>

We are writing to address a recent issue regarding an email
that some of you may have incorrectly received, which welcomed you to UMBC as a
new employee or new student worker and provided instructions on setting up your
UMBC account. These emails were sent within the last week with the subject line
of 'Your MyUMBC Account.' This email was sent in error to an unintended
recipient group due to an internal mailing list issue.

Please note the following:

    No
Action is Needed: If you are already a current student or employee, or
if you received this email in error, please disregard the message. You do
not need to take any action regarding the account setup instructions
         within that email.

    Account
Safety: We want to reassure you that your existing UMBC accounts and
personal information are safe and secure. This incident was purely a
mailing error and was not the result of a security breach.

We want to thank those watchful individuals who reported
these emails as potential phishing attempts. An unexpected email is a possible
indicator of phishing, and we appreciate everyone who took the time to report
    it.

We apologize for any confusion or inconvenience this may
have caused. If you have any questions regarding this notification, please feel
free to reach out to our support team at UMBC's
    Help Service or 410-455-3838.

Thank you for your understanding.

Sincerely,

STRIVE Mission Selected, Taha and Newman Co-Investigators

In June 2024, Ghassan Taha was a Co-Investigator
on the proposal, "The Stratosphere Troposphere Response using Infrared
Vertically-Resolved Light Explorer (STRIVE)," led by Dr. Lyatt Jaegle'
(University of Washington (UW)). STRIVE was among the four proposals selected
for one-year mission concept studies. After that one year, NASA reviewed the
four studies to select two that would implement new satellite missions.

On February 5, 2026, NASA selected the STRIVE mission along with the EDGE

the mission will aim to answer, addresses how the mission will help with preparing
for extreme weather events, and how discoveries will serve society and the
    country.

Congratulations to Dr. Lyatt Jaeglé (PI, UW), Dr. Ghassan

Check out booths from independent artists, small businesses and some other UMBC clubs. You can also take part in festival challenges, a stamp rally, and raffles for the chance to win prizes.

We'll also have free Japanese snacks and drinks, and plenty of opportunities to learn a little more about Japanese culture and traditions along the way.
