Blackboard to Launch New FAQs in mid-December DoIT to review UMBC-related Bb FAQs as a result

Blackboard is rolling out a significant upgrade to its documentation experience this month, and UMBC users will begin seeing the first changes on December 10. Blackboard's new help site features a more modern interface, clearer navigation, and role-based pathways designed to make it easier for instructors, students, and system administrators to find the information they need. 

According to Blackboard, all existing help links will automatically redirect to equivalent content on the new site, reducing the likelihood of broken links or missing pages.

Throughout December, Blackboard will continue refining its documentation based on preview feedback from institutions across the globe. Because this transition represents a substantial shift in the structure and organization of Blackboard's support resources, UMBC's Instructional Technology team will begin reviewing and updating our Blackboard FAQs in January. This effort will ensure that all references to vendor documentation are accurate and that our campus-specific Blackboard documentation aligns with Blackboard's own new help environment.

This past weekend, 16 teams participated in the Chesapeake Regional Ethics Bowl, hosted by UMBC's Center for Ethics and Values. UMBC came in 1st place, defeating Washington and Lee in the finals. The third place team was St. Mary's College of Maryland, and the fourth place team was Salisbury University. The top three teams – UMBC, Washington and Lee, and St. Mary's – will be competing at the National Ethics Bowl Tournament taking place in St. Louis, MO in March 2026. Congratulations to the team, consisting of Lauren Rivarde, Tafat Boudif, Daniel Saenz, and Aziza Mattaka (with Rebecca Mekasha as an alternate), and to their coach, Greg Ealick, as well as Stephanie Farrone, an Ethics Bowl alum who helped organize the event. You can see from the list below that this was quite an accomplishment!

Getting ready to move out or just doing some spring cleaning? Consider donating your gently used items to the Retriever Re-Store, UMBC's move out donation collection program that aims to redistribute the items to other students who can give them a new life!


Donate items such as:

Kitchen appliances 

School supplies

Small furniture 

Desk organizers

Decorative items

Arts + Crafts 

Pots/pans and dishes

Mirrors

Non perishable food items

and more! 


At this time, we will NOT accept clothing, bedding, or items that should be trashed.


You can find donation collection bins near your RA desk in each residence hall, the ACC lobby, and Walker clubhouse starting today, December 8th through the close of the residence halls! Shop for free from collected donations at the Retriever Re-Store pop up shop in Upper Flat Tuesdays.

Help us divert waste from the landfill and redistribute pre-loved goods for free among our campus community! Email the Office of Sustainability at sustainability@umbc.edu with any concerns or questions.
