"Why Global Studies?" Video - A casual, interview-style video in which students share why they chose Global Studies as a major. Reasons could include having a strong interest in global issues, already coming from an international background, wanting to study broader topics in addition to international affairs, or enjoying the interdisciplinary nature of the program due to not knowing what career to pursue. These interviews can be done individually, in pairs, or in small groups. 

Study Abroad Spotlight - For GLBL students who have already completed or are completing their study abroad. This can be an opportunity to share where you went, what you learned, your most valuable experiences abroad, and/or advice on studying abroad.

Student Spotlight - An opportunity for all students to share a rewarding experience they have done or are currently taking part in. This could include an internship, research, volunteering, on campus-activities, etc.

Anxiety Toolbox is a series of 3 workshops designed to help people learn about anxiety and some basic skills to help identify and manage anxious thoughts and behaviors.  

This first session focuses on understanding what anxiety is and uses activities and breathing exercises to begin the practice of building your toolbox!

This is a non-clinical series provided by Retriever Integrated Health, so no appointments or consultations are required and any UMBC community member can join this virtual session!  If you can only make it to 1 or 2 of the workshops, that's ok too. 

You can also download and review the Anxiety Toolbox Student Workbook that we'll use in the workshop.

Each student should follow their professor's guidance in regarding to the use of AI in their courses. UMBC's enterprise license for Google Workspace means the basic features of Google Gemini AI are available to all UMBC users free of charge. Happy Monday oSTEM! The e-board has some exciting announcements for you.

First, we will be hosting virtual meetings on Discord every other Friday, 7-9 pm, starting this week. Because the entire e-board are commuters, this is a way we can have regular programming in addition to our in-person events. We welcome members to join for 10 minutes, 2 hours, or anything in between, as this will be a space to build connections and learn more about oSTEM. This week, we plan to play Jackbox and a few other games. We hope to see you then! 

Here is a temporary invite to the Discord. The invite can also be found on the home page in the right panel. 

Second, oSTEM is now an official chapter! Questions and comments can still be sent to the current officer team emails, but we recommend starting to use umbc@chapters.ostem.org, as this email will remain unchanged between leadership changes. (Speaking of, we will be looking for new leadership in the spring as we grow and seniors graduate.) We hope to have some official pins and buttons sent soon to distribute at events- so stay tuned.
