Generative AI in Teaching I: Literacy and Foundations

7-8pm EST Mon, Nov. 3, 2025, online

This session introduces the basics of generative AI and its implications for teaching and learning. It focuses on AI literacy by examining what these tools are, what they can and cannot do, basic prompting, ethical & responsible use, and how they may impact classroom practice. Participants will see short demos of ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and have time for Q&A. This is a reprise of the workshop held by Dr. John Schumacher, in October.

Understanding Your Rights and Responsibilities Under Title IX

This virtual training session will cover topics such as an overview of the Office of Equity and Civil Rights (ECR),  what constitutes prohibited conduct under university policy, responding to a disclosure, procedures for reporting and resolving reports of prohibited conduct, trauma-informed care, confidentiality, and other applicable policies and procedures. Mandatory Annual Title IX Student Training

UMBC is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for all members of the campus community and is committed to maintaining a campus environment that is free from sex discrimination, including both sexual and gender-based harassment and violence. To help meet these goals, UMBC requires all students to complete an online educational program on topics including consent, bystander intervention, sexual assault, sexual harassment, dating violence, stalking, and related topics. All students are required to complete this training at the start of each academic year. The online training can be accessed at UMBC's Vector Solutions login page. Leading up to Transgender Day of Remembrance, the WGEC invites community members to make a quilt square to honor those who have lost their lives to transphobia.

This weekend -- Saturday, November 1, and Sunday, November 2  -- from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., a law school–level mock trial scrimmage will be happening right here on campus!

The event is hosted by alumna Maggie Taylan, a UMBC Graduate Assistant with Residential Life and current law student at the University of Baltimore School of Law. 

Her team will be scrimmaging against:

• Catholic University's Law School team on Saturday

• University of Maryland Carey School of Law on Sunday

Why Attend?

• Watch how law students prepare and argue at the national level

• See courtroom presentations and evidentiary arguments up close

• Ask questions and connect with current law students afterward

• Even have the chance to serve as a juror and provide feedback!

Location: Harbor Hall:  Harbor Multipurpose Room

Time: 9:00 am-4:00pm on Saturday and Sunday

Even if you can only stop by for part of the day, this is an amazing chance to see law school in action and get a feel for what mock trial looks like beyond undergrad.
