    <div>I hope your semester is going well. If we haven't already met, I'm Mel, the Service Chair of 
    the Social Work Student Association here at USG. On behalf of 
    SWSA's officers, I wanted to reach out to you all and send out some 
    resources/ volunteer opportunities. Considering the state of the world 
    right now can be overwhelming, but grounding ourselves in the principles
     of social work can be the best way to preserve. <strong>Community-care and 
    self-care go hand in hand and as future social workers we have a 
    responsibility to take care of ourselves and our communities.

It's the perfect opportunity to learn practical skills for understanding and managing anxiety.</span></h4><p><strong><em>Anxiety Toolbox 1: Understanding Anxiety &amp; Building Your Foundation</em></strong></p><p>Date: Monday, November 3, 2025<br>Time: 2:30 PM - 3:30 PM<br>Location: The Commons, Room 318</p><p><strong><em>What to Expect:</em></strong><br>This introductory workshop will help you understand what anxiety is and will introduce foundational skills, including activities and breathing exercises, to start building your personal anxiety management toolbox.</p><p>Remember:</p><ul><li><p>This is a non-clinical series from Retriever Integrated Health—no appointments are needed!</p></li><li><p>Open to any UMBC community member (students, faculty, staff).</p></li><li><p>Can't make all three? No problem!           <div class="html-content"><p>Starting in November, the Faculty Development Center (FDC) is co-sponsoring a three-part series, <em>Introduction to Generative AI &amp; Teaching</em>, facilitated by John G. Schumacher, PhD., Professor of Sociology, Anthropology &amp; Public Health and a USM/UMBC Generative AI Pedagogy Fellow 2025-2026. </p><p>Upcoming sessions include:</p><p><strong>Generative AI in Teaching I: Literacy and Foundations</strong></p><p><a href="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/calt/events?mode=upcoming" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Mon. Nov. 3, 2025</a> · 7 - 8 PM   WebEx</p><p>This session introduces the basics of generative AI and its implications for teaching and learning. It focuses on AI literacy by examining what these tools are, what they can and cannot do, basic prompting, ethical &amp; responsible use, and how they may impact classroom practice. Faculty will see short demos of ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and have time for Q&amp;A.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Generative AI in Teaching II: Applied Skills and Use Cases</strong></p><p>Tue. Nov. 11, 2025  11:30-12:30pm.  WebEx or In Person</p><p>Building on Gen AI &amp; Teaching I, this interactive session highlights applied skills and practical use cases. Faculty will practice effective prompting, explore discipline-specific scenarios, and consider assignment design strategies.
