The Public Stories Lab is hosting a debrief lunch for attendees of virtual Digital Storytelling conference to come together, share what they learned and experienced, and discuss any ways that we might further integrate story work on campus! The lunch will take place on Monday, November 3rd from 12:30-1:30 in Public Policy 107. 

We will provide lunch from Indian Delight, so if you are attending the conference and would like to join the lunch, please register on this form by Thursday, October 30th so that we can order sufficient food and do our best to accommodate dietary needs.

On Tuesday, August 26, 2025, two of our 2025 Visiting Fellows gave virtual presentations on the research projects they conducted with their mentors; additionally, a UMBC student who recently defended his doctoral thesis presented his research. Then, on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, our third 2025 Visiting Fellow presented on her research, during the GESTAR II GRA Seminar Series – Fall 2025, held in the Physics Building at UMBC and hosted by Dr. Zhibo Zhang, Physics Professor and GESTAR II Senior Research Scientist.

Since 2012, the Division of Student Affairs has been at the vanguard of preventing power-based personal violence in our community through the Green Dot Bystander Intervention training program. The goal is to reduce power-based personal violence by giving bystanders the skills to intervene safely and effectively to prevent sexual assault, stalking, and relationship violence. The number of reports of sexual violence happening on and near campus are high. What if we could reduce the number of incidents by 10% or 20% or more? Now is a more important time than ever to lean into prevention.

There is a Green Dot training scheduled as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and as of today there are only a few people signed up. It is Friday, October 31 from 1:00-4:00 PM in Commons 329.  If you have never been to a Green Dot training or would like a refresher, maybe now is the time! Green Dot training is experiential (not boring) and will move you to action. As it says in my e-mail signature, "No one has to do everything, but everyone has to do something." I hope to see some of you on Friday!

If you attend the Green Dot training and complete a few steps afterwards, you can earn a Green Dot badge! Electronic badges are credentials that you can attach to LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook to show others your commitment to reducing power-based personal violence. And our training has snacks (on Halloween, the snacks will be treats, not tricks)! We hope you will consider registering for this Green Dot Bystander Intervention training.
