Hillary Clinton’s Neoconsevative Resumé

  <Tagline>George Dubya Bush part 3</Tagline>

This is basically an article or two, that shows that Hillary Clinton is neoconservative hawk embed with the capitalist elite that the democrats (as well as republicans) serve. Hillary Clinton, as we all know, voted to invade Iraq and didn't admit that it was based on lies that she, Bush, and the rest of the neocons sold to the people of the US. It wasn't until recently when she decided to run for president for the second time, that she admitted the rationale to invade was based on lies (such a coincidence). In other words, she told y'all she lied to you and her lie contributed to millions of people deaths. You're insane if you believed anything that flies out of the pathological liars mouth.

Another thing that led to thousands of peoples deaths, is her backing and support of a military coup in Honduras and her support for the Junta that's in place now. Clinton was also down for destabilizing Syria and instigating a civil war that has killed over 300,000 thousand people. Then there was her support for destroying Libya so Muslim extremists could take over and there's plenty more of this type of shit that she has supported.

This woman lacks any conceivable bit of remorse for assisting and supporting the brutal killings of over a million people, and she lies whenever she opens her mouth, like the sociopath she is. Read the article, it's great.

Edit: Here also is another great article on Hillary's neoconservative ways. :D

The Commons To Be Made Mini Maryland

<Tagline>Because “The Commons” is kinda common</Tagline>

In the excitement of the UMBC 50 celebration (which is for some reason still making people hype) as well as the going of homecoming, the school wishes to pay an homage to its beloved state of Maryland by bringing all that the people of Maryland love into one place. While the official rename of the Commons is still up in the air, the most popular name is currently “Mini Maryland”. Some honorable mentions include the “Crab Palace”, “The Natty Boh Center: Fucking You Up Since Freshman Year”, and “Ye Olde Bae”. They are also adding a new corner to the building where you can buy all the Maryland gear you could ever dream of. It’s a one-stop shop spot for Maryland flag key holders, Maryland flag staples, and Maryland flag colored seasoning for your steamed--NOT BOILED--crabs.
Geography major Mary Landen cannot contain her excitement: “I’ve been bleeding and breathing Maryland for all my life and now I get to study at a place that does the same for me! I’m gonna spend every single second I possibly can in this building.” The renamed building is also rumored to be include changes to some of the food eateries. One professor exclaimed, “it’s about time.” But after deliberation they decided that because of the new “Asian” place, they thought they’ve changed it up enough. To compensate, they got rid of the only place to conveniently order burgers and fries without Old Bay. But that isn’t the Maryland way. And UMBC stands for Maryland and supports her in all her thoughts and fuckups. You gotta let her know that you stand with Her.

-Your Aunt

CFP: Conference on Community Writing

  <Tagline>Engaging Networks and Ecologies</Tagline>

Community writing teachers, students, scholars, and activists are in the unique position to study and influence how writing, images, and ideas create impact and circulate to address the issues facing our communities—climate change, population movements related to climate and political instability, systemic misogyny, racially motivated police killings, mass incarceration, expansion of corporate rights, resurgence of anti-immigrant rhetorics, educational injustices, gun violence—from both scholarly and practical perspectives. We believe that we are at a crossroads for higher education, broadly, and for Rhetoric and Writing Studies, specifically, and we must engage deeply, through every facet of our work, with the task at hand, with the ecology in which we live, and with the other members of our ecology, to whom we are profoundly connected.

For the 2017 conference, we ask that you think of this evolving entity not only as an infrastructure but as an ecology. The second Conference on Community Writing will convene around the theme of “Engaging Networks and Ecologies.” This theme alludes to academic theories, but is also grounded in daily practice and lived experience. Networks mean people having relationships: teachers with students, activists with governance, community members with students, and so on, and these can be in real or virtual environments. Ecologies mean the places we live, the health of the bodies that make up communities, and the interconnectedness of humans, non-humans, things, and places. We function within our community ecologies, however large or small in size. It is clear that impacts in parts of our ecology reverberate and can resonate in other parts. We witness this through our work in environmental communication, community literacies, service-learning, community publishing, advocacy writing, archival research, community-based research, critical literacies, activist rhetorics, and the many other kinds of work we do both inside and outside of the academy.

We also want to invoke, through our conference theme, theories of ecological writing studies, and to suggest a more deliberate synergy between these theories and those of community writing. Following the social turn in rhetoric and composition, and the subsequent attention given to postprocess theories of writing, “ecology” became an increasingly popular lens through which to understand writing, as in ecological models of writing and student positioning (Cooper; Syverson), ecocomposition (Dobrin and Weisser), rhetorical ecologies (Edbauer), and postcomposition (Dobrin). By engaging with the complex writing and rhetorical ecologies of, for example, texts, images, hashtags, or memes discussing racially motivated killings or misogynist political discourse, or of responses both on the ground and over social media to the Dakota Access Pipeline protests or the Long Island University faculty lockout, community writing scholarship and praxis has the potential to help catalyze change in communities writ small and large.

With all of these theories and implications of the concepts of networks and ecologies in mind, we ask:

How can we apply or use ecological theories of writing as distributed, hyper-networked, circulatory, and remixed in order to strengthen our work to catalyze change in our communities?

How do concepts of rhetorical contagion (Seas) and theories of circulation of writing, images (Gries), and ideas impact the kinds of writing we have our students produce for public audiences?

How do these ecological theories enhance our conception of community writing, and how do they call us to rethink, throw out, or revise our conception of what community writing, however defined, is and does in the world?

How do our assignments and our pedagogy in general shift if we conceive of writing as system or ecology, rather than an individual product directed at an individual recipient?

How might new materialist and post-human theories impact our understanding of community writing’s scope, meaning, and potential impacts?

How do students come to understand the complexity of post-human, ecological writing theory?

How can we work to expand our networks and ecologies to include the voices and writings of historically and chronically marginalized members of our communities?

How might we define “community” or “writing” given 21st-century shifts in how communities coalesce and are maintained? How would these definitions inform our praxis?

What projects have you completed or envisioned that take advantage of digital technologies aiding community development?

“Network” and “ecology” are both terms borrowed from other disciplines. How can other disciplinary knowledge influence the work of community writing?

We welcome proposals that address any of these questions or that interpret our theme in any number of ways. Academics of all levels, community partners, public intellectuals, activists, and students involved with engaged pedagogy, research, activism, and social change are invited to submit a proposal for an individual paper, a panel of 3 or more presenters, a roundtable discussion, an interactive workshop, or a digital “poster” that will help us understand how writing functions socially to inform, empower, and transform, as well as how we can engage networks and ecologies to support community-based research, pedagogy, and activism.

For more information visit: http://www.communitywriting.org/cfp/

Disclaimer: The LLC Program does not sponsor this event.
Revealing the truth with ‘Deepwater Horizon’

It is easy to remember an event by what the media says, but a full story is usually spared, especially if controversy is involved. The new movie “Deepwater Horizon,” which is about the explosion of an oil rig off of the Gulf Coast, reveals the truth of what people may simply know as a catastrophic oil spill. The movie according to the official site, “honors the brave men and women whose heroism would save many on board, and change everyone’s lives forever.”

Without knowing the full backstory of the event, viewers are thrown into the harsh reality that not everything is fully disclosed through news programs. According to an article in the New York Times that was written a few months after the event in 2010, “interviews with 21 Horizon crew members and on sworn testimony and written statements from nearly all of the other 94 people who escaped the rig” is what helped to piece together the story.

The acting, screen writing and special effects are breathtaking and heartbreaking all at once. The entire production pulls the audience in by creating incredibly realistic and powerful scenes — which only in the opinion of those who were present could truly be considered powerful reenactments. What proves to be the most compelling aspect in this movie is the talented cast that seamlessly adopts the roles of their characters, as hard as that may be in regards to a true event.

Mark Wahlberg plays Mike Williams, the chief electrical technician on board of the Deepwater Horizon, who was in charge of maintenance of all minor and major technological aspects of the rig. Kurt Russell plays “Mr. Jimmy” Harrell who was the boss of the Horizon, who from the beginning sticks to his instincts about the ill-prepared oil rig against the BP executives like one man played by John Malkovich.

Walhberg and a few other members arrive on the rig to begin their 21-day shift to find that executives from BP and officials from Transocean – the company who owns the rig – are present and send away the men who are meant to check the concrete to make sure that the entire rig and pipes are ready to begin pumping fuel, selfishly saying the inspections were not necessary.

As suspected, after running a test too early from the pushing of the BP executive, the tests do not come back positively. Due to the concrete cracking on the ocean floor, the pressure caused mud, oil and debris to begin making its way dangerously up through the main pipe. Caleb Holloway (Dylan O’Brien), also known as “Hollywood,” is one of the men stationed on the floor, manning the pipe to make sure everything is running smoothly. He is the person who first notices the unwarranted leakage of mud out of the pipe, which, within seconds, turns catastrophic.

As the leak begins to spread from several sources and increases in power throughout the rig, much of the machinery begins to overwork and gas begins to spread, causing explosions that inevitably cause a domino effect of injury and destruction on every inch of the rig.

Andrea Fleytas (Gina Rodriguez) is the only woman who was depicted on board the Deepwater Horizon in the movie and was a bridge officer who was only 23 at the time, given the duty of monitoring emergency signals and alarms. Interaction between her character and Wahlberg’s during catastrophe, as well as many of the other characters, show just how willing some people are to help one another when even they themselves feel as if they have no hope.

Every viewer will have their own reaction to the story played out before them, but it is more than likely that each will walk away with new knowledge and respect towards the men and women involved in what has been widely known as only being a catastrophic oil spill.
