Help us gain a wider audience for the Retriever Exchange!

<Tagline>Please share this info with your UMBC colleagues</Tagline>

Join the Retriever Exchange Group on myUMBC!

This group will be similar to "Freecycle" in that a
UMBC department can advertise that they have office supplies or items
that are no longer of use to them. The items will only be offered to
another UMBC deparment, and will be available free of charge.

The idea is to use UMBC's supplies and resources to the
maximum extent possible. This is an easy way for UMBC departments to
save money because departments will be able to keep their budget costs
down by not having to purchase something that is sitting useless in
someone elses office. It also promotes a "green" environment for our
campus, and prevents perfectly good items from going to a landfill

Day Two: Unfathomable and Unmovable

1 Peter 2:4 – “As you come to him, the living Stone – rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him…”

Everything seems to be in flux all around us. We hear about wars, rumors of wars, terrorism, economic uncertainty, and hearts melt with fear and insecurity. Sometimes we look to the world or national leaders and find that they too are up and down with every news cycle. Follow politics, and that’s even worse. What are we to do?

When nothing seems stable, let’s follow the words of the psalmist who said of God’s people, “They remembered that God was their Rock…” (Psalm 78:35). In another psalm, David asks, “Who is the Rock except our God?” (Psalm 18:31). And finally in desperation as his heart grows faint within him because of his situation, the David cries, “Lead me to the rock that is higher than I” (Psalm 61:2).

David knew that in the midst of uncertainty and attacks from enemies around him, God was unchanging and unmovable. And that was before the coming of Jesus to this earth to die for our sins so that we could have eternal life and a restored relationship with the Father, before Jesus rose again and ascended to heaven and sent us the promised Holy Spirit to dwell inside every believer and to enable us to walk in a manner worthy of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus alluded to himself as the “stone the builders rejected [which] has become the cornerstone” (Matthew 21:42). Later on, the apostle Peter quoting the prophecy of Isaiah, referred to Christ in the following way: “See I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame” (1 Peter 2:6).

Praise the Lord! Jesus is our Rock and those who trust in him will never be put shame! What a wonderful promise to hold on to when everything upon which we might want to lean on seems to be giving way. Our God is the Rock! Jesus is the Rock! We can put all of our weight and care upon him! (Taken from Jim Cymbala’s daily devotional.)
