The trip I went on, I went on as a participant during my first spring break and led the trip during my second spring break. We learned about bringing more positivity and humor into hospitals to decrease pain levels and speed up the rate of recovery! Through this ASB trips, I have seen endless smiles from patients, kind words, and even tears of joy while also building strong relationships with other UMBC peers. This is something I will never forget!

I love popcorn! And free things!), Flat Tuesdays, the Sports Zone, the Student Org Space, Student Life offices, and more! But, my favorite place of all in The Commons is sitting at the tables under the row of flags! Not only can you look up at all the flags and be reminded of UMBC's diversity, but it is also the perfect place to meet up with friends, eat, do homework, etc.!

SGA Announces New General Meetings for the UMBC Community

    <Tagline>Join the conversation - and let's make change happen!</Tagline>

SGA is pleased to announce the new "General Meetings." Various departments and branches of the organization meet weekly - however, SGA rarely meets as a large group in a meeting. While we will continue to hold these weekly meetings, there might be a perception that those meetings are intimidating and don’t foster a welcoming environment for students interested in getting involved as well as they should. SGA wants to create a space for meaningful conversations about problems, challenges, and issues faced by our UMBC community. General Meetings are designed to address just that.

Each month, the SGA will facilitate conversations around topics that are “hot button” issues in our campus community. The meeting will begin with updates from SGA’s Executive Branch (including Department Directors) and Legislative Branch (Senate and Finance Board). These updates will help our UMBC community understand what exactly our SGA has been working on. Afterwards, we will begin our themed discussion in small groups. At the end of the night, we will determine next steps to make real change on campus.

The goal of the General Meetings is to do the following:

Provide a venue for SGA officials to share updates with the UMBC community

Increase SGA’s commitment of transparency

Networking opportunity for students to meet a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff for projects and initiatives

Discuss real problems on campus, and determine actionable initiatives

Get every person in our campus involved with SGA!

You're invited to our first General meeting on Wednesday, September 14th! All General Meetings begin at 6pm and take place in the Skylight Room on the 3rd Floor of the Commons. Please RSVP to the events on myUMBC if you plan on attending. Dinner will be provided!
