Fight The Stereotype!
An Event Hosted by the Society of Women Engineers (SWE)
Tomorrow, April 5th, the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is hosting an event called Fight the Stereotype, in the UC Ballroom. Doors open at 4pm, event begins at 5 pm.
Featured Guests are:
Nina Davuluri, the First Indian-American Miss America
Dr. Julia Ross, the First Female Dean of the Engineering School
Topics include stereotypes, STEM Education and women empowerment. The first 50 tickets come with a MEET & GREET with Nina Davuluri. Additionally, the group will be collecting school supply donations at the door to give to local Franklin Elementary Middle School. Tickets are available at the CIC. It's free for both UMBC staff and students. See the attached flyer.

Nominations are now being accepted for Professional Staff Senate and Council of University System Staff. There are nine senator positions and two CUSS positions available for the 2016-2018 term.
Nominees must be exempt staff employees and have been employed at UMBC for at least one year.

If you are currently enrolled in LRC 99, MATH 106, or do not have a math placement, you will be advised by the Office of Academic and Pre-Professional Advising in the Academic Services Building, Room 103.
Prior to your appointment:
1. Please review your scheduling options by looking over the schedule of classes, available starting on March 28th, on the UMBC website HERE.
2. Review your degree audit – major and general education/foundation requirements, so that you are aware of the courses still needed to complete your degree requirements. Learn more about your degree audit HERE.
3. Review the sample 4-year plan for your major to determine where you are in the recommended sequence of courses. HERE
4. Check the Gateway requirements for your major and determine where you are in relation to the completion of this requirement. HERE
5. Come prepared to your appointment with a list of courses you intend to take in Fall 2016.
After your advising appointment, you will have clearance to register for classes. However, you will not be able to register until your assigned registration time. Your registration time is the earliest date and time that you may register for classes. For information about registration times, please go HERE, or check the banner on the top of your myUMBC page. If you have not attended an advising appointment, you will not be able to register when your registration time occurs.
If you have a hold on your account, it is still important that you sign up for an advising appointment. Meeting with an advisor in advance of registration means that you will not have to worry about getting advising clearance once your hold is lifted.
All Majors - Gateway not Yet Completed
Students majoring in Pre-Computer Science/Computer Science, Pre-Computer Engineering/Computer Engineering, Pre-Mechanical Engineering, Pre-Chemical Engineering, and Pre-Engineering must meet with an academic advisor in the office of Undergraduate Student Services in the College of Engineering and Information Technology. Students may sign up for an individual appointment or participate in group advising. Group advising and individual advising require approximately 30 minutes of your time. Group advising gives you the opportunity to review your registration plans with multiple advisors in a small group setting. Individual appointments give you the opportunity to meet with an advisor one-on-one.

Please note that you must schedule the appointment online while at the UMBC campus. You will need to select a group or individual appointment. Sign-ups for group and individual advising will begin on March 7th for appointments beginning on March 21st.
Students on academic probation are required to sign up for an individual advising appointment. They may not attend group advising.
Computer Engineering and Computer Science - Gateway Completed
Computer Engineering and Computer Science students who have completed the gateway will be assigned a faculty advisor. Faculty assignments are posted outside of ITE 204. Students may also view their advisor information in myUMBC. To access this information, follow these steps:
• Login to myUMBC
• Select “Topics”
• Select “Advising and Student Support”
• Select “My Advisors”
Please contact your faculty advisor to schedule an advising appointment.
Transfer students in their first semester at UMBC, regardless of gateway status, will not be assigned a faculty advisor, and will need to sign up for an appointment at the link provided above.
Mechanical and Chemical Engineering - Gateway Completed

It is a great pleasure to announce that Dari Alhuwail has successfully defended
his PhD thesis. Dr. Alhuwail studied how home health agencies can use health IT
to achieve their performance improvement targets. Starting from Fall 2016
semester, he will be conducting research and teaching at the Kuwait University
as an assistant professor. Congratulations to Dr. Alhuwail and his family for the very
successful completion of this important milestone in his scientific career!

Men Host Hartford and Women Welcome Albany at the Dawg House
A pair of America East lacrosse contests take place at UMBC Stadium on Sat., April 9. The men open the proceedings by hosting Hartford at noon, and the women play the nightcap, welcoming Albany at 3 p.m.
A ticket to the men's game gets you into the women's contest for free!
The contests are sponsored by Papa John's, with the first 100 fans in attendance getting a slice, courtesy of Papa John's of Arbutus.

Located 7 minutes from campus in historic Relay, MD this lovely 3 Bedroom, 1.5 Bathroom house will definitely make you feel at home. I'm looking for someone to sublet my room until July 1st as I will be working out of state this summer. Afterwards, you will have the option to continue renting the room (or even switch to one of the other two bedrooms in the house). Currently myself and two other girls reside at the house; however, all of us are hoping to move out in the next month or so after the semester ends.
This is a great place for animal lovers as two cats currently live here and the backyard is visited by adorable chickens. Additionally, there is on-site laundry and a huge basement for storage.

Room for rent in Catonsville for $375
We are looking for a college student or a young working professional to share a 2BHK apartment with two other UMBC students. Preference given to a person who can stay for at least a year. Also the person will have to sign a lease as a lease holder.
The room is available immediately for move in. The rent of the room is $375, plus utilities extra (~$50 per person). Kitchen and bathroom are newly furnished and will be shared with two other occupants.
There are ample parking lots, laundry facility is on site. Grocery stores like Giant and Mars are nearby.
The apartment is located in a very safe neighborhood in Catonsville area, close to UMBC and CCBC (5 min), downtown baltimore (15min). Ideal for UMBC students since the shuttle comes nearby.
Smoking is not allowed inside the apartment, but you can step outside and then smoke if that is okay.
Both roommates are college students who have busy week days but like to socialize over the weekends and prefer a college student or a young working professional with similar interests. Consumers want to ensure that their enterprise data is stored securely and obliviously on the cloud, such that the data objects or their access patterns are not revealed to anyone, including the cloud provider, in the public cloud environment. We have created a detailed ontology describing the oblivious cloud storage models and role based access controls that should be in place to manage this risk. We have also implemented the ObliviCloudManager application that allows users to manage their cloud data using oblivious data structures. This application uses role based access control model and collection based document management to store and retrieve data efficiently. Cloud consumers can use our system to define policies for storing data obliviously and manage storage on untrusted cloud platforms, even if they are not familiar with the underlying technology and concepts of the oblivious data structure.
