MID-ATLANTIC AND NORTHEAST AFFECTED BY AEROSOLS

Recurring aerosols remain in the eastern side of the United States, as seen in the AQI image on the top left. These aerosols, believed to be mostly sulfate and residual smoke from prescribed agricultural burns in the southern states (see HMS image, top right), were at first unknown due to a vast cloud coverage over the past few days which obscured probing in the affected area. The NAAPS image, bottom left, also shows that smoke was part of the cause of the moderate air quality. As for the rest of the Unites States, air quality was overall good throughout the day.
