Thank you to all the graduate students who joined us for our recent workshop:
Mastering the Art of Presenting to a Lay Audience
The session was highly interactive, and the attendees were completely hooked from start to finish! Our phenomenal speaker, Dr. Robin Cresiski, from GSPD shared invaluable strategies on how to communicate complex concepts, read an audience, and highlight the broader significance of our research. Everyone walked away having learned a lot, feeling much more prepared for the upcoming GEARS Research Symposium.
We kept the energy high with some great food, and we wrapped up the afternoon by drawing two lucky winners for our $25 raffle!

Dear UMBC Community,
On behalf of the Strategic Plan Steering Committee, I invite you to share your perspectives on UMBC’s strategic plan via
this survey. The survey includes five sections, each aligned with one of the university’s strategic pillars. As a reminder, the pillars are:
- Cultivate organizational innovation and vitality
- Redefine excellence in research and creative achievement
- Strengthen Maryland and its communities
- Advance student opportunity and success
- Transform teaching and learning
You can choose which sections you would like to complete based on your interests and experiences. The survey is also designed to capture additional ideas you may have for strengthening these five focus areas. Please note that each section of the survey will take approximately 10 – 15 minutes to complete and all responses are anonymous and confidential.
We also invite you to visit the
strategic planning website for current information, including a new feedback form now available on the home page.
Finally, as our pillar subgroups prepare to introduce their engagement activities, be sure to follow the
myUMBC Strategic Planning group for information about scheduled engagement events. We will also continue to email the UMBC campus community about additional opportunities to engage in the planning process.
We hope that you will complete the survey by Tuesday, April 7. Your insights, ideas, and feedback are essential as we continue the planning process.

Performance Management Process Reminder
Completed forms are due Friday, May 1, 2026
As a reminder, the 2025-2026 PMP evaluation period runs from April 1, 2025, through March 31, 2026. Department heads and supervisors are required to complete and submit a PMP evaluation form for each of their regular/grant funded Exempt and Non-Exempt direct reports for the 12-month period stated above.
The deadline for submitting these evaluations is Friday May 1, 2026.

The Women's Faculty Network met a few weeks ago and members would like to have a facilitated listening session about working under our ongoing challenging conditions —ICE issues, attacks on identities and fields of research,emotionally supporting ourselves and our students, etc. After talking with other affinity group members, we will host this session for any other interested faculty on
