I am absolutely thrilled for the upcoming year in UMBC Athletics! This vibrant part of our campus life is a fantastic way to bring members of our UMBC community together through exciting competitions, inclusive fitness programming, and celebrations of our shared achievements.

While our NCAA Division I teams shine on the field—and we welcome you to come cheer them on!—there are also countless opportunities for students to get involved in intramural and club sports. Whether you're a fan of soccer, basketball, ultimate frisbee, or esports, these programs nurture healthy activity, friendships, and personal growth. Plus, our club teams often get to travel to regional and national competitions, making the experience even more enriching!

Don’t forget about the Retriever Activity Center (RAC), an amazing facility where all UMBC students, faculty, and staff can take fitness classes and work out at no extra cost. The RAC boasts two weight rooms, a dedicated cardio zone, an aquatic center, an arena floor, recreational courts, a functional fitness area, two fitness studios, tennis courts, a modern arena track, multipurpose rooms, an indoor cycling studio, and newly renovated locker rooms! Here are some important announcements as we start fall semester:

Showcase and Small Fall Auditions

This year's Fall Showcase theme is Decades, and our Small Fall musical will be Tick, Tick... Boom!

Auditions for both productions will be held on Friday, September 5th from 4-7pm in the Harbor Multipurpose Room. To sign up, please fill out this form by 4pm on September 5th. 

Callbacks for Small Fall will take place the next day, Saturday, September 6th, from 2-8pm, also in the Harbor Multipurpose Room. You don't need to be available for the entire callback window. Times will be assigned based on your availablility.

Small Fall Production Team

Interested in being stage manager, choreographer, vocal director, or lighting designer for Tick, Tick... Boom!? Apply here! Applications will remain open throughout the month of September.

General Body Meetings

Our first GBM of the semester will be on Friday, September 12th from 12-1pm in ILSB 237. Come meet the new board and share ideas for events and activities you'd love to see this semester!

Fall 2025 Practice Schedule:

Modern Taolu: Mondays & Wednesdays, 7 - 8:30 pm, RAC Court 1

Tai-chi: Fridays, 6 - 8:30 pm, RAC Room 144 (Studio A)

Wing Chun/Self-defense: Sundays 4 - 6 pm, RAC Rm 130 (Fitness Studio)

Practices will start on the following days:

Taichi: September 5th, 2025
Wing Chun/Self-defense: September 7th, 2025
Taolu: September 8th, 2025

All practice days/times above are as stated unless specified. 

Additional Information + Pricing:

All Modern Taolu Practices will be completely free during the semester.

For the months of September and October, Tai-Chi classes will be free of charge. After the month of October, Tai-Chi classes will revert back to the following payments: 
- First class is free 
- $10 for 1 class 
- $15 for 2 classes 
- $25 for 4 classes

The first Wing Chun practice will be free of charge for first-time students, and payment for subsequent practices is $15/class. Alternatively, you could opt in for $75/month.
