Welcome (or welcome back!) to UMBC. Whether you’re just beginning your graduate journey or returning to continue your work, I’m so glad you’re here. A new year means new challenges, new opportunities, and new chances to grow—and we in the Graduate Student Association (GSA) are excited to support you every step of the way.

My name is Aminah, and I have the privilege of serving as your GSA President this year. The GSA is your voice on campus, working to advocate for your needs, create opportunities for community, and make sure you have the resources and support to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

Graduate school can sometimes feel overwhelming, but you’re not in it alone. I want you to know that I’m available to listen, answer questions, and help connect you with the right resources whenever you need. Think of GSA as your hub—a place to share your ideas, concerns, or even just to get involved and meet other amazing graduate students.

Activate your permit before classes begin

Dear Students,

UMBC virtual parking permits are now available for all incoming and returning students for the 2025 – 26 academic year. All permits from the 2024 – 25 academic year expired August 14. All returning students must visit the UMBC Parking Portal to verify that the vehicles you will be driving to campus are accurately registered and to acquire your new permit through the “Order Permit” icon.

New students should go to the UMBC Parking Portal to register your vehicle(s) and activate your permit by clicking on “Order Permit.” Your permit must be activated prior to your arrival on campus.

Please note, registering your vehicle is not the same as getting a permit. Once vehicles are registered, please click on the "Order Permit" button. Parking permits expire every August.

Parking Permit Overview

Student parking permits are assigned as follows:

Zone A (Red): Commuter students

Zone B (Green): Walker Avenue Apartment residents

Zone C (Gold): Residential students

Please check out the UMBC Parking Zone Map to verify the locations of spaces in your zone.

Hi everyone! I am still seeking a female roommate to live with for at least a year lease. I have found a nice place that is an 11-13 minute drive to UMBC. I am not sure about the UMBC bus route, but it is a 4 minute walk from the metro bus stop. If you take the 76 at that bus stop, it will take you to UMBC in about 15 minutes. The place is $550 a month without utilities included. The landlord said that there were no previous pest or maintenance issues. It looks beautiful and very spacious! About:  For the past two years  the National Museum of Asian Art been working with Mr. Omara Khan Masoudi, former director of the National Museum of Afghanistan in Kabul, on his extensive oral history. This incredible work of storytelling will soon be available online on our website as a resource in preserving Afghan cultural heritage. To celebrate this work, we will host a public program on Saturday, September 20 from 2-5pm featuring Mr. Masoudi as well as other storytellers and cultural practitioners from the Afghan diaspora.
