We’re currently seeking volunteers to help with multiple aspects of this program. Whether you’re staffing information tables, prepping materials, or just offering a friendly smile, your participation will make a real difference in helping our students feel at home from day one.

The Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) encourages you to apply for the Student Loan Debt Relief Tax Credit, a program that helps state employees reduce their student loan debt. The application period is now open for the 2025 tax year.
APPLICATION PERIOD
Completing the brief application could result in a significant tax credit, helping you pay down your existing student loan balances. Many Maryland state employees have received the credit, and many have received the maximum credit of $5,000.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Recipients of the tax credit must demonstrate that the entire amount awarded was directly applied to eligible student loan payments.
