Retriever Dance Marathon is TONIGHT!
Last year, with the help of students, faculty, and staff we were able to raise over $1,700 for the Be Positive Foundation. Be Positive (B+) uses the money raised by students to help fund research to fight childhood cancer. Current figures estimate that for every school day an additional 46 children are told they have cancer.
The Group Fitness instructors have teamed up once again to raise money and will be volunteering to lead dances during the event. Last year we came in second place! Please join our team, donate or come out and support if you can.

UMBC Residential Life is pleased to present the Residential Life Student Success Scholarship and the Clarence E. Robinson Jr. Memorial Scholarship to assist students financially during academic year 2017, spring semester.

Then & Now, #7: Lecture Hall 1 & The Quad, 1967 & 2016
... but in 1967, it wasn't a "Quad" yet

There was no "Quad" when UMBC opened in 1966 because there were not enough buildings to form one. The open field adjacent to the Academic Building (now part of the Biological Sciences Building) and the Multi Purpose Building (later Gym I) was eventually called "the Mall."
The Lecture Hall (now commonly called Lecture Hall 1) stood between the Academic and Multi Purpose Buildings. To create the 1967 photo below, the photographer stood on what is now the Commons Terrace and pointed the camera toward the the Mall. The foreground of the shot includes Gym I (on the left) and the Lecture Hall (on the right).
We went back to where the photographer must have been standing (though the elevation is different now) and took a matching shot.
