Meet Joel,
He is a Biochemical Engineering major, a JHU Researcher and a presenter at URCAD 2016. Joel also gave a presentation at Johns Hopkins’ Annual Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium and gave a presentation to the Hopkins Inistitute of NanoBiotechnology.

His research focused Parkinson's disease; in this study the most toxic fibrillar form of misfolded α-syn, pre-formed fibrils (α-syn-PFF), were used to elucidate the functional domain of a nascent transmembrane receptor, JHA1, in its role as a mediator of α-syn-PFF endocytosis. Joel's advice to research students is to apply to labs or to opportunities that actually interest you. This will also make your application stronger.

The medical student is living in a pretty much independent basement and i will be renting one of the rooms of the second floor, the other room is $550 a month (no utilities included). First floor has a living room, dining room and kitchen area (all common areas). Laundry is on the second floor. 1 and 1/2 bathrooms (doesn't include basement). His research project involves improving the efficiency of hydrogen production through electrolysis. This is attempted by using pulsed power rather than constant power to drive the reaction. There are mass flow and electrical effects that can develop boundary layers that may be responsible for a decrease in the efficiency of water electrolysis. These boundary layers take time to form so the application of intermittent power may prevent them from fully forming and thereby increase the efficiency of the process. In addition, Mr. Cherry is also part of the team running a summer program for middle school students, entitled "Science and Engineering: Experimenting with Basic Concepts". This summer program, directed by Dr. Romero-Talamas, aims to introduce and reinforce the basic concepts of physics and thermodynamics to middle school students with a college twist.
