UMBC Adjunct Faculty Advisory Committee Meeting

October 14, 2022, ADMIN 1005A and WebEx (see at bottom)

4:00 - 5:00 p.m.

    I.      Meeting with Dr. Sheares Ashby

a.     Working with her office on a date for her come meet whole committee

b.   Hope to have it happen before meeting with Sr. Administration

    II.      Continued Thoughts on Spring 2023 Conference

a.     Need to develop a theme

b.     Think about keynote speakers

c.     Programming

d.     Usually ask previous grant recipients to show off their talents

e.     Query fellow adjuncts on their needs.

   III.      The Listening Tour (continued discussion on meeting our consituents)

a.     Have almost completed CAHSS list of departments/adjuncts

b.   Would like each committee member to work from that list on contacting adjuncts in their particular college for a face-to-face discussion about concerns and needs (can be virtual)

c.    Create a report of findings for committee review.

d.   Use those findings to continue to push policy, better treatment of adjuncts, and build community

  IV.      Elections subcommittee updates

a.     Updates

b.     Any discussion on the work

   V.      Shared Governance

a.     Letter to USC written, second draft sent to all committee members for feedback

b.     Seeking a seat, through shared governance structure/argument, on University Steering Committee

c.     Have strong support of Provost and will brought up in first meeting with President Sheares Ashby

  VI.      Grant Request (James Dorsey, Music)

a.     While updated info sent, need further to make recommendation

b.     Some issues that need to be addressed

c.     Need program brochure

  VII.      New Business

a.     Next meeting Ayana (Benefits) and new head of HR will attend

b.     Make sure you’re setting up meetings with Deans
