UMBC Adjunct Faculty Advisory Committee Meeting

4:00 - 5:00 p.m.

1.     Trauma Aware Teaching Workshop, October 17 (Norman)
a. First Announcement Went to all Adjuncts Via MyUMBC

b. Please Spread the Word among your collegaues

2.     Faculty Senate Discussion
a. Met with Orianne Smith (President, Faculty Senate)

b. Discussed long-standing failure of senators to represent all faculty, and discussed the barriers

c. Orianne thought maybe a documented commitment by senators would help improve that

d. I suggested change in by-laws that would allow an ADJ with 3 years experience to be a senator

e. Also offered to research other FS where adjuncts have a seat on the senate

f. Agreed to meet again after speaking to our respective committees

g. Are we in a sense, a “senate”

h. Think working toward a seat on University Steering Committee may be our best move

3.     Status on Stipends and Grants (Rob)
a. Stipend letters going out to Departments next week.  

b.  We should make an announcement about the grants on MyUMBC.   

4.     Follow-ups from last meeting
a. Adjunct Health-Care (Farah/Maggie)

b. By-Law Adjustments (Margie…should we make this a sub-committee?)

c. Inquired with Pat about number of ADJ II and what makes defines a University Committee and those items are on my agenda for our meeting first week of October

d. Connected Bonnie with Sheryl in terms of treasurer role
