One of the things that keeps WFN leaders busy at the end of the fall semester and the beginning of the spring is individual meetings with prospective hires during their on-campus interviews. Candidates often have questions about family leave, UMBC culture around issues of gender and equity, and work-life balance; members of the WFN offer honest and informed answers.
These conversations are a chance to welcome prospective colleagues and offer some help at a stressful juncture in their professional lives, but we need volunteers to make them happen.
Meetings are one-on-one and usually take 20-30 minutes. We do try for maximum flexibility in scheduling to minimize the burden on WFN members. Conversations with candidates are confidential and entirely separate from search committee deliberations. Even if you can only make one of these meetings, that's a huge help. And more volunteers = less work for everyone!
Please let Tamara (tbhalla@umbc.edu) and Rebecca (adelman@umbc.edu) know if you're interested in helping with this.
