ICF, in support of the National Library of Medicine's Disaster Information Management Research Center (DIMRC, http://disasterinfo.nlm.nih.gov/) ,is looking for students to help DIMRC develop 3D simulations using Virtual Reality and computer game technologies for applications related to disaster management training and environmental health education. The work will involve developing, under DIMRC staff direction, 3D digital models that will be used in the simulations, design and program multi-player simulations using selected game engines and on-line virtual world platforms, and test and evaluate such simulation applications. Students will benefit from expanding their knowledge of computer gaming technologies, developing an understanding of disaster response resources of DIMRC, and gaining experience in the use of virtual reality technologies for instructional purposes, as well gaining experience working as part of a research and development team in a federal government environment.
Students must be available to work on-site at the NLM office in Bethesda, Maryland (6707 Democracy Boulevard) for approximately eight to ten weeks (June-August) during the summer of 2017.
