Tell us about your internship, co-op, or research opportunity, including your day-to-day responsibilities.
I am interning within the Software Engineering Center for Raytheon Missile Systems. Upon orientation, I was assigned onto a project collaborating with a team of out Raytheon Dulles in Virginia. We operate on Agile Scrum so my day to day responsibilities are working on the software assigned to me and daily meetings with my team to discuss the work done and progress of the project.
Describe the process of obtaining your position. When did you hear of the position and submit your application?
I received help on my resume through the Career Center and my goal post grad is to serve the country and work for a Government, whether Contractor or Federal Agency so I applied to Raytheon online, with interest in the type of Defense company that they were. I was invited to a Hiring Event out in Tucson, Arizona at the end of April where I was interviewed for the position of Software Engineering Intern. I had experience interviewing from previous internships and I also did a lot of research on the company, specifically how the Software Engineering Center operates. I found out that day that I would be offered the position.
What have you enjoyed the most about your position or organization?
The collaboration and networking with interns and employees from all over the country. Also working everyday with people who share the same passion of protecting our country.
How do you believe you have made an impact through your work?
My goal is to always work hard and do all and everything I can to be a benefit to the company with nothing but a positive impact. In this case, working for a Defense contractor, knowing I contributed to ensuring the safety and security of my country in any way that I could was a huge honor.
What advice would you give to another student who is seeking an internship or similar experience?
Put yourself out there. Take initiative to meet people, network, and research opportunities that correlate to your passions. There are so many opportunities on the Internet, just apply.
