Congratulations to UMBC junior Cameron Walkup, who has been selected as one of three finalists from across the University System of Maryland (USM) for the position of 2019-2020 Student Regent. The Student Regent serves as a voting member of the USM Board of Regents, representing more than 175,000 undergraduate and graduate students from 12 institutions, including UMBC.
Cameron is pursuing a Geography and Environmental Studies major and Legal Policy minor. A Sondheim Public Affairs Scholar and Honors College student, Cameron has completed internships with Earthjustice and the U.S. House Committee on Natural Resources. He serves as Political Director of College Democrats of Maryland. On campus, Cameron serves as a Hearing Board Justice with UMBC's office of Student Conduct and Community Standards.
The three Student Regent finalists will meet with University System of Maryland officials in the coming weeks, and their names will be submitted to Governor Hogan. The Governor will select the Student Regent later this spring.
