The path of recent graduate Tobi Tunde Alli to his degree in mechanical engineering is featured in a video segment on NBC News.
Originally from Nigeria, Tobi enrolled at Prince Georges Community College, and later transferred to UMBC.
The role of UMBC programs for transfer students and involvement of faculty from CNMS and COEIT are highlighted. His experience is a model for students and institutions nationwide.
Tobi was also mentored by Dr. Soobum Lee, Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering, winner of the SURE award in 2017. The SURE program - one of many Internal Funding Opportunities - supports the inclusion of undergraduates in faculty-led research during their first four semesters at UMBC. Dr. Lee supported Tobi on nonlinear vibration energy harvester design and experiment for about an year.
