Hello UMBCserves!
If you're considering to apply to be an ASB trip leader or participant for the '14-'15 school year (or just getting some good training on service and volunteerism leadership) there is an FREE opportunity for you to attend an alternative spring break training conference later in this summer, Sun. July 27 - Fri. August 1.
The conference is being put on by an organisation called Break Away (www.alternativebreaks.org) and they'll be preparing future ASB student leaders from multiple universities on planning and facilitation of ASB trips. There is no cost for you to attend and I think it'll help you and I put together great UMBC ASB trips next year or if your plans change, these same skills can be transferred to many areas of student leadership at UMBC.
The theme for the conference is "Collaborative Approaches to Securing Food for All" and it's being cohosted by UMBC and CCBC-Catonsville. The conference's full name is: Alternative Break Citizenship Schools (ABCs). You can find out more here:
If you're interested in being an ASB trip leader or participant but cannot attend, don't worry! Attendance at this conference is not mandatory for ASB leadership or participation next year. If you are interested, you don't have to fill out the above form yet, just reply in an email to, me, mzachar1@umbc.edu, with a paragraph explaining your interest and why this opportunity is a good fit for your leadership aspirations next year. Please respond by email by Friday, June 27th at the latest.
Thanks! -mark
