The first day of classes is upon us and students, faculty, staff, and visitors should expect extremely heavy traffic and a high demand for parking. Here are some tips to make your drive and parking experience easier:
- Allow yourself extra drive and parking times.
- Avoid entering/exiting Campus via UMBC Blvd and utilize Wilkens Avenue, Hilltop Road, Walker Avenue, and Poplar Avenue (see attachment).
- Plan your drive before you leave and check traffic reports.
- Utilize a traffic app that can update you on current conditions and suggest alternative routes.
- Residential Freshmen must move vehicles to Freshmen Lot by 7a.m. on Wednesday, August 30th.
- Commuters arriving on Campus after mid morning should utilize Lot's 22, 29, Stadium Lot, Poplar Avenue, and Lot 25.
- Traffic and parking availability are most impacted during the first few weeks of the semester time period. The later you arrive, the less interior parking will be available. As the semester progresses, traffic and demand for parking spaces will subside to more normal levels. Pay attention to the parking lots that fill up on campus first, and if you are a later arrival to campus, save yourself time and gas by foregoing checking these lots and proceed to the larger, outlying parking lots.
